Alitalia and Air France offer up routes

EU competition commissioner Mario Monti has said Alitalia and Air France have offered to let other airlines use their routes under their proposed strategic alliance.

In Brussels, the European Commission said the two airlines made proposals to address its concern that their alliance would reduce competition on France/Italy routes.

The commission said the companies have offered landing and take-off slots, mainly at the Paris and Milan airports, to enable other airlines to fly between France and Italy.

It said that before taking a position it will give interested parties 45 days to comment on the proposals.
