8. CONVERSION OF LICENCES OF NON-TANZANIANS SEEKING EMPLOYMENT IN TANZANIA.
Aircraft owners/operators are urged to give priority of employment to Tanzania nationals. Where it becomes operationally necessary to employ a non- Tanzanian, the pilot earmarked for employment shall be well experienced to impart the knowledge to Tanzanians. Such expatriate pilots shall have a minimum of CPL IR and 1000 hours of flying experience for employment or those specified in the company operations manual whichever is higher.
This requirement does not absolve the aircraft owner/operator from the statutory requirements needed of obtaining resident and work permits from the relevant authority in Tanzania for the employment of non-Tanzanians
This part shall not apply to foreigners who are employed by non-profit making organizations of a religious or charitable nature.

Anyone recently converted license to Tanzanian cpl can confirm this?

1000hrs total time?

I don't think the above rule is enforced much. A fella i know got his TZ CPL 4 months ago, with only like 250TT. Unforetunately not really employable. Companies want pilots with 206/208 time.

I know of people who have converted with less, but they had type-specific experience and an employer who wanted them.

Yes this is becoming the case. It is very difficult to get work permits now for pilots with less than 1000 hrs experience. We have started a Cadetship scheme for Tanzanians to try to ease the recruiting pain, but I will not look at employing any ex-pat pilot now without 1000 hrs.

I have 1200 hours on C208B but out of these 1075 copilot and 125 PIC hours and my total time is 1500 hours. Please advice me will it be possible for me to convert to Tanzanian CPL by myself based upon current hours requirement there for conversion and after converting are there chances of getting a job there on the same type?.

Vandriver, with your time on type, you stand a decent chance of finding work in TZ. Your license won't be totally converted until you've done an IR/base check in the 208, and since you can't just rent a caravan out here for a flight test, you'll need to find an employer who's willing to take you on. Just make sure you know how to fly the van single pilot and you'll do fine.

Atpcliff and Daladaladriver I am really thankful to you for giving precious and useful advise to me. I am planning of coming to Africa (specifically to Tanzania) around November as I heard that is the time when chances of getting a job is most(please correct me if I am wrong). I really hope things work out.

I wouldn't say November is ideal... high season starts June 1st, so march-may is the best time to show up. However companies are hiring all the time.

Oh ok, Looks like I got little late in getting there but will still come by in the December 2013 just to check if there is any scope. Thanks alot for helping out

what about pilot with 340 hrs TT, ready to get type rated on van, any chance to get a job if shows up? and best time to go there? help greatly appreciated,

Susi Air or the Maldives are good places to kick off careers. Botswana use to be, but word is not anymore. Otherwise skydive dropzones are good places to start too.

Sorry mate, but I just have to ask: are you aware that Maun is *not* in Tanzania? :}
Might wanna start job hunting by taking a map out first before you end up on the flippin wrong side of a continent! Take a look around the African Forum, there's this whole thread with 35 pages about the Maun in Botswana and your question might even have been answered in there already.

No work permit for non Tanzania Pilots, i was in Tanzania civil aviation authority and i got all the information about that yesterday?????

can I ask, how many hours do you have? and who in TCAA told you this? this could be an issue for the operators next year.
