The regulating authority clearly has no teeth.

The Moremi AOC should have been immediately suspended until all issues have been fully resolved.

The airfield should have been immediately closed until the trees have been cut.

Slapped wrists and "recommendations" do not improve safety, action is needed.

The Ancient Greek.
I don't think that there was really an issue with the trees surrounding the airfield. Its just like any other strip you will find in the wilderness.
Have a look in the video I posted in the Maun thread. I went in and out of there twice in a van and had no issues.
I was cutting it much closer out of Xugana (which has since been changed to a calcrete strip)

Capt Livingstone, keep it up!

Second Anniversary

Two years to the day and minute.

I am not going to repeat myself. Just read my posts above. The CEO of Moremi Air was so upset about my comments that she had their lawyers write not one, but at least, to my knowledge two letters to PPRuNe. The moderators were extremely reasonable when I explained and proved that I was only posting facts and my own views.

I believe that the CEO is still sticking her head in the sand and trying to cover up the facts. Note Moremi Air lawyers; this is my opinion. I invite the company to make a statement to the Ngami Times to prove me wrong.

I see another lawyer's letter winging its way across to that other continent :uhoh:

Third Anniversary

No SS I didn't forget, I have been out of Internet contact for three weeks.

All my comments still stand there has been no resolution.

getting away with it

I choose my words carefully, attentive to the forum warnings... but after three and a half years, I remain stunned that such conduct has been tolerated. My wife lost both her parents in this accident but that is all well and good: she was not economically dependent, not technically an international flight so the conventions do not apply.... Insurers delay and indulge in predictable dilatory practices. No compensation, no apology.

Botswana, the poster child of African sound development, has dodgy skies and a toothless civil aviation regulator. I leave it to locals to attest to improvements. Naive European travel agents sending high paying visitors to perfectible outfits at Maldive prices but with Congo standards (perhaps I am harsh on that troubled nation).

And finally Moremi airways, BBQ airline with no sense of shame. Has your culture changed? Can pilots whistle blow? Not even a name change, what breathtaking arrogance. Curious to hear from the relatives of other victims, perhaps justice has been served in other geographies

I do sympathize with you for this loss. And I do understand where your anger and frustration come from. But please do not aim your anger towards all the operators there in the Delta.
The main operators there are world class as far as it goes with General Aviation and I think their incident and accident lists reflect that.

Civil Aviation there is certainly not toothless. In fact they enjoy making it as hard as possible for the operators there.
That accident did bring around a whole raft of changes in operations. Flying in the delta pre-2011 and post-2011 is a whole new affair.

As for Moremi Air... Well I think enough has already been said. Personally, I am appalled that the company didn't stand up and say "We F***ed up" and instead sat on the accident report. (I'm still not sure how they can do that? Perhaps contacting the DGCA will turn up what is needed there.)

As an aviation consultant I agree totally with what Lilflyboy says.

Let us not also forget the CAAB who were criticised in the report so also sat on it.

There are some outstanding air charter companies in Maun. They however have their hands tied with recruitment by the Department of Irritation. They should be allowed to recruit the best pilots regardless of nationality. However let me stress that pilot error was not the cause of this accident. Indeed the pilot was one of the most qualified and experienced in the Delta.

I am just amazed that no large insurance claims have been made yet regarding this accident.

Due to recent appointments I have a feeling that Moremi Air is going to start to be run in a more responsible manner. We will see.

I wish I could share your indulgent and magnanimous spirit. I reread the report and I think any local operator who did not take preemptive measures by denouncing half arsed operators is guilty of negligence at best. As for the Moremi manager, I await an apology as clearly you have escaped any form of punishment or retributions. Burn in hell

Well it is no surprise the investigation and all follow up stuff was a mess.

Aron Kitunga, the investigator in charge is hardly a person, I would want on the job!

I found little mention of the maintenance organisation that did service and "inspection" on PT6 on this aircraft. It was not mentioned by name - therefore I believe I know!

Agree - that there are some World class operators and personal, in that part of the World.
