SAA Pilot Recruitment

Congrats to all those that "got the call" !!!

Welcome to the worlds most awesome Airline !!!! (in my opinion)

:D:D

sky waiter 8th Oct 2010 06:11

Do you know when the start dates are for those who got the call - this is good news as it will undoubtedly create movement so we can all start moving up the chain??

beechbum 8th Oct 2010 15:34

Most to start on the 1st of November and others with 2/3 months notice period thereafter!!

NOFAULT 8th Oct 2010 23:16

"Worlds most awesome airline" I beg to differ. Awesome that they are still operating! In years gone by it was but now who knows??

Oldaircrew 9th Oct 2010 02:24

Mile hi and no fault,

At the moment it is the worlds most awesome airline. I was there and am now out in the big world and believe me, SAA is far ahead of the rest of the industry wrt the way they treat their cockpit crew. SAA is stuck in the dark ages that way and long may it last!! Good luck to all those joining.

Bedwings 9th Oct 2010 09:06

Congrats to all who got in! Any one know how many got the call?

Ghost_Rider737 9th Oct 2010 18:49

I know of 6....mostly from SA Express...Not sure about the other Airlines....

Alternative 9th Oct 2010 20:49

Thus far,

8 from SAX
1 Comair
1 1time
2 Air Force
1 Cathay

More interviews this week,as well as next week.

Good Luck....

flyknight 11th Oct 2010 15:46

You have got to be joking. Right? http://images.ibsrv.net/ibsrv/res/sr...milies/eek.gif

In days gone by, yes, a great place to work. But by no means a "major" in ANY way, means or form. Today, just another African airline.

Sorry. It's the truth.
SAA ------> The best flying job in SA, possibly in the world :D

cavortingcheetah 11th Oct 2010 15:55

Superbly trained.
Waited on by attentive staff.
Over paid.
Under worked.
Live in Africa.

Good luck boys! It's got to be the best airline job in the world.

Sky_icaros 12th Oct 2010 08:24

Hi everybody!! Can anyone tell me where to apply? what are the minimum requirements?

Thanx in advance

Ghost_Rider737 12th Oct 2010 08:47

Give your CV (preferably) to a pilot in the Airline. He/She will drop it in the right box !

Thats what I did.....

The careers link on the website is not very up to date !

Flyer14 16th Oct 2010 21:23

I know who you speak of. Far as I know he's staying at Tiger.

Btw, I've heard SAA closed down or are closing down the DBN base. Is this true?

millertime 17th Oct 2010 07:00

It's always the half truths that do the damage in this forum.

The "little oke from Lanseria" ferries the Flying Lions Harvards, has never done a single SAA formo display (actually it would be illegal) and he PAID for an A320 rating at market rates. Even with the A320 rating he did not have enough points to be called for an interview and is flying for Tiger in Singapore.

Sometimes, my man, the world is not as twisted and corrupt as we make out, and sometimes things are done properly. Keep well.

Oh and by the way I am not him or his father. I just hate seeing someone slandered with half truths.

Omni Range Zero 17th Oct 2010 15:43

Hmm, TT. I seem to detect vestiges of green, old chap! :}

Alternative 17th Oct 2010 19:59

tuirbo tim.........get a life!

divinehover 18th Oct 2010 16:48

Underworked? I better buy some sweats for the roster queen then. I'm obviously doing something wrong.

Ghost_Rider737 18th Oct 2010 17:34

I must admit we definately not underworked !:=

i-Robot 18th Oct 2010 19:14

What's the interview like?

Shrike200 19th Oct 2010 19:43

It's like masturbating with a cheese grater...slightly amusing....but mostly painful.

Sorry, but Ford's the man and it seemed appropriate. What's any interview like? :)

ALPHA FLOOR 28th Oct 2010 03:47

Any updates on the numbers recruited by SAA? Rumour here in the Fragrant Harbour is that 2 Cathay FO's guys got the nod from SAA and that another 8 have interviews with SAA....

AFL

Q4NVS 28th Oct 2010 07:17

...Wars have been won (and lost), based on Rumours...

Ghost_Rider737 28th Oct 2010 08:42

Not all rumours are rumours ;)

ALPHA FLOOR 6th Nov 2010 02:41

Another Cathay Snr 747 F/O resigned this week and will be joining SAA in March. Makes 3 CX F/O's to SAA?

whodunnit2 6th Nov 2010 08:16

Any idea if the CX F/O's are coming across straight into the RHS or do they do the boy pilot thing first?

cavortingcheetah 6th Nov 2010 10:41

Fast track commands are great fun.

ian16th 6th Nov 2010 11:06

Why do SAA want 747 crews?

Acording to their website Aircraft Features | Aircraft model | SAA | South African Airways SAA don't have any 747's

cavortingcheetah 6th Nov 2010 11:13

DECs on 73s?

Ghost_Rider737 6th Nov 2010 12:01

JUST FOR THE RECORD :E

SAA does not hire DEC's !

All the new recruits start on Year 1 FO salary scale... as In Flight Relief Pilots(A340) or First Officers on A319/B737-800 ...your previous experience means squat !

whodunnit2 6th Nov 2010 12:19

What is used to determine whether you get offered the boy pilot or regional FO spot? I presume that anyone who has done longhaul before would rather be in the RHS!

jbayfan 7th Nov 2010 14:31

Generally, experienced pilots become P3 on the A340 unless they are current on the B737NG or B732/3 and there is a need for FO's on the B737 fleets. Cadets and low experience PDI's generally go straight to a domestic fleet so that if they are unable to hack the conversion then SAA does not waste three years of a more deserving pilot's time on the inadequate PDI who may have otherwise been hiding their deficiencies as a P3 on the A340.

i-Robot 8th Nov 2010 12:32

Hi jbayfan. I'm not sure where you're getting your info from. However, your first sentence is factual. Sadly everything thereafter is .

No more direct entry RHS (domestic only) unless type rated.

snosrap 8th Nov 2010 19:43

I,

You're making some wild statements about a subject you obviously know little about.
JBF is 100 percent correct.

Regards.

2packson 9th Nov 2010 11:55

Any black folk hired?

Hear SAA been doing some hiring of late, some local pilots and some expats soon to be ex-CX- congrats to the guys and girls hired by SAA!
Interesting that CX FO`s hired is something up in smoggy HK, are all the gen on pprune threads true...?? or do these blokes have family in SAA?? Why the move back to SA, more so Joburg..?

I hear, there are many Mango blokes itching for a seat in SAA, but are these chaps getting halted...??perhaps they are just too vital to fly the ex-SAA CPT to Durbs route, or perhaps they needed to keep retired direct-entry SAA Captains happy and away from the bowling clubs! Well sounds like atleast one Mango bloke slipped through the cracks well done LDJ.

I was wondering if Don Mkhwanazi of BMF has been too busy with other transformation activities to notice the latest on the recruitment department of SAA ? How much longer can people be employed on merit in SA, after all SAA is a national carrier and therefore a National Pride of Black Economic Empowerment.
So may I ask how many of the newly hired are PDI?:8

Ghost_Rider737 9th Nov 2010 14:21

LOL someone is stirrrring the pot again :yuk:

2packson - I think all legacy carriers would like their staff to represent the country's demographics.....I think in a case like SAA's the people at the TOP(government) leave the hiring to the experts...

So in closing, if YOU were not hired or called for an interview its not the fault of the Government....

Enough Said !

Katters 9th Dec 2010 03:27

Does anyone have info on the interview process and relevant docs for preparing for the interview?

Cheers
K

Ghost_Rider737 9th Dec 2010 08:59

I think if you are widely read on Awops and know your way around the Jepp you will be fine. I have heard of guys being asked to draw an ALSF II type lighting system(in colour) but I think that style of interviewing MIGHT be behind us....

Dont stress just be honest and if u dont know the answer then say so....

:ok:

For the sim check(B737-200) they give you the stuff (profile of whats going to happen)....you dont need to know flap speeds or SOPs of the a/c (if u not rated on it)....I suppose they just want to see your handling ability...

I may be wrong but this is how it happened afew years ago...

divinehover 11th Dec 2010 15:27

SAA?

so whats the deal with SAA these days? Still hiring based on the the ever efficient Affirmative Action Program? I know they pay well etc, but service levels dropped through the floor over the years. I am a South African who would loved to have been employed there, but the politics has really taken its toll. I got a job in Tanzania nearly 4 years ago with a good American owned company flying Turbo props. The pay is great, and its fun flying, and really learnt a lot. I didnt stand a chance in hell at SAA. Can anyone convince me otherwise that working for SAA is great and the selection process is fair?
I am open to any other views. Thanks gents and ladies. . .
