I wouldn't say it's 'unfair' so much as 'completely and utterly random' (seriously - they may as well just pick names out of a hat), based on my observations of past hiring practices amongst friends and co-workers.

Gentleman at our company didn't even apply and was called for an interview :ooh:
|
Was he perhaps an EE pilot?
|
Affirm, thats correct.
|
Well there's a surprise hey? Imagine just waking up one morning to a call from the national carrier telling you that you have a job?
Ain't it great? I'd love to be African..... hang on... I AM African! Oh... no. Apparently being born on the continent, schooled in the same town you were born in, and holding a passport from the country of your birth.... does NOT make you African. Apparently I need to get a deeper tan and change my name? Bugger... better luck next time around the karma tree? :bored: |
Dont listen to all those loser comments !
Just apply ....look at the demographics of the last 2 intakes.... :ok: |
|
So many people are master's of their own misery... I used to be one of them until about 2 years ago. Here are some facts I can testify to:
SAA needs pilots when crew shortages cause routes/flights to be cancelled or extra flight pay to an under-staffed crew compliment becomes expensive. If you have the right experience/qualifications, good references and your assessment goes well, you get in. There aren't enough experienced cadets or BEE compliant pilots to take all the jobs going. Just study for that interview and keep your CV updated, it is a fair process. This attitude works, I promise. |
Nov 2010 intake - 9
6 white males SAX 1Black male SAX 1 Black Female SAAF 1 White Female SAAF Dec 2010 intake - 13 10 White males 1time,Link, SAX,Charter 2 White Females SAX,LINK 1 Indian Male SAX Jan 2011 - 6 6 White males 1time, Comair, Cathay Feb 2011 - ? Interviews start again in two weeks, mainly for P.D.I's.... Will continue in Feb for everyone else. If you dont buy ticket, you'll never win the Lotto! Stop whining and keep sending a CV if you passionate to work for SAA. |
actually, B732!
the pc12 individual flew medium twins for his previous company! 2 cathay, 1 Mango and 1 Comair! |
Pc12/b732
Well the one guy I know who flies PC12's now was the commander on a rather memorable B732 flight. SO if its him, you best stop whining about it!

SAA intakes
It appears that the perception that mostly PDI's are taken by SAA does not show much has changed over the years at SAA.
The last two 2010 intakes (total 22 pilots) had 16 white males in it, over 70% are still white males !! Go figure.....and stop whining |
Methinks that these so called PDI's are young enough to not be classified as previously disadvantaged, but perhaps more accurately (but less politically correctly) presently advantaged. I would hazard a guess that the non white male pilot population in SA is way less than 30%, so perhaps the figures are still pretty fair....
But then again who said fair was an acceptable way of doing business. I agree with you Nirak.....stop whining |
PDI's
The most disadvantaged position to be in is as a previous generation (40+) previously disadvantaged white female.
Discriminated against in both the old (ex-SAAF system) and in the new RSA (skin colour) but just for different reasons. |
