I have followed the Huey saga with keen interest because I find it ironic that such a nostalgic chopper got such a bad rap in this country irrespective of the circumstances.

I haven't taken sides...... but merely comment on what I read & hear.

There are always two sides to every story & I don't think that Mr Broberg is doing the CAA any favours by staging a high profile raid on an old adversary and coming up empty handed, especially after the court saga.

First prize for Mr Broberg is obviously to shut the Huey operation down & getting two pilots arrested for flying CVC, on charges yet to hold up in a court of law, was just a consolation prize.

If they are breaking the law, then Mr Broberg must get his facts right and sort it out once and for all.

He seems unable to do so which means that either they are legal, or, he is incompetent.

Eitherway, I just wish that justice would hurry up and run it's course so we can move on and take the Huey out of the gutter & put her back on the pedestal where she has surely earned her place.

Choppa Driva is hanging his hat on the fact that the SACAA, the SA Courts and Law Enforcement have not yet shut down this operation.....
Easy to do, and if ones head is totally in the sand it would appear that these are poor innocents being harrassed by the "Lone Ranger"
I doubt if anyone else believes Gerry has the permission and the funding to travel all the way to Capetown just to screw over someone trying to make a Rand. I also believe there are many rungs in the ladder above him who have given thier approval for this action. I further believe he would much rather be out flying............
The fact that nothing gets through the court system should be no surprise. Im betting even Choppa Driva has seen many cases of catch and release when it comes to more serious criminal behavior in SA.
For one in the supposedly "middle of the road" Choppa Driva appears to be dodging traffic.
As I mentioned before this piece of "Nostalgia" should be in a Museum. Others who are abiding by the rules are working daily with no mention. The threads here and at the other site have been going for sometime, so someone must have pulled CDs chain or he is using a new moniker.

Yes a coin has two sides, but when two pilots are remanded on bail how can this be regarded as empty handed, nor is it yet clear what else was unearthed.

That raid was authorised from the top, no point blaming Broberg the individual.

Spoke to a friend from across the highway from helibase, it appears that the SAPS had a search and seisure warrant to confiscate documentation computers etc, not neccesarily to ground the Huey, this apparently is then the first blow in a new saga concerning the operation.

All very well arresting two pilots....but what about the guy that is flying the Huey now...are they going to arrest him as well.

If not, then to me it looks like harrasment on two individuals.(unfortunate but true).

With all the stink going on about this issue and seeing Pilots get suspensions, arrested etc., I would think any pilot, who may in the future be looking for a career, would seek other forms of employment.
But its SA and history sometimes get forgotten.....

:} Well HP, it looks like Van aint crying either, and by the looks of things, his Ganonies have just increased in size, as the Huey is flying ten fold now.

So either that pilot flying knows something that Brouberg and his sidekick dont know, or Van is doing the flying on a PPL and knows that it makes no difference whether they suspend / or take away his licence.

Either way someone is flying the Huey. :=

Reliable source has whispered in my left ear that the Yeloow Huey went swimming today.

Fortunately the pilot could swim.

Being away from South Africa for sometime, a mate of mine told me there was a huey crash I believe today. Does anyone have any information on this? Was there any injuries? I hope for all involved and their families that there wasnt. I understand it was one of the two famous Gary's aircrafts.

yes I as well was informed there was an accident. I am unfortunately away and would like to get more information. I am glad to hear that the pilot was able to swim!

Actually considering where the aircraft came from its no surprise that they dont call it a crash. Its quoted as a "Classical Emergency Landing"
Thats a big No Sh1t. You ever heard of an engine failure and dumping an aircraft in a lake as "Classical"..........Comical maybe.
Its on a lowboy headed back to Helibase to dry out, then after they scrounge through the dumpster for spares, it will again grace the skys of the Cape.
If Helibase wont admit to mechanical problems it then falls on the Pilot. Wonder if hes going to let them put an accident on his records.

:{ Have you noticed that there has been no response from the Huey experts on why their pilot had a dump in the dam.

But I do have it on authority that the pealoot could not get his overalls off in time to dump.

What a crappy situation to be in....rather messy I would say.

Ag, but dont worry, give another week and the same Huey will be flying again.:ugh:
