Decent hotels in West Africa

One of the companies that I work with will be doing some charters to cities in West Africa such as ; Dakar, Banjul,Bissau,Nouakchott,Conakry,Bamako,Ouagadougou,Cotono,L ome,Douala,Freetown,Abidjan and Accra. Can someone recommend DECENT reasonably priced, crew friendly, hotels and contact info on them in these cities? Also crew rates if you have them? Thanks.

Cape Guest House by Far the best value for money.

From roughly $80 per night. Good food - great view. Water and electricity.

DO NOT make use of Cape Sierra Hotel (next to it) rat investation at $135 per night.

Cape Light House and Bitumani very good and brand new - will get more details tomorrow.

The Airside in Accra is OK. Pretty close to the airport, beds are good and there is hot water (always a bonus in a hotel in Accra)

Lightbulb ACCRA

I have sayed many times in these $40 to $60 hotels in Accra and never a problem.

All of them was clean, hot water and aircon.

Abafun Lodge
Airport view Hotel (yes close to Airport)
Miklin Hotel - remains one of my favourites for the price.
Oasis Lodge
Flying Crews : Millionair (I think) are in Novotel or they where there. Think sea view but we talk much more expensive.

How many people.

I love to stay in a German Motel (but only 6 rooms if I remember)
Watch out for madam Gaziela - she drinks any human under the table.

We stayed at Le Meridien President in Dakar, when we overnighted there. It is nicer than most of the hotels we stay at in the US, and it sits right on the beach near downtown. It is a safe area, and a beautiful location. I think they paid about $100 or so USD for us per night. Definately well worth the money.

I'm not sure how things are in Ivory Coast these days, but the Wharf Hotel in Grand Bassam used to be a great alternative to staying in Abidjan. The Wharf is right on the beach (sand in your shoes while you eat your breakfast) and has a good swimming pool.

Otherwise, Abidjan itself has more hotels than you can shake a stick at. The Ivoire is the best known and always used to have lots of flight crew staying there - don't suppose things have changed much.

In Lome, the best place to stay is the Hotel Sarakawa, which is basically equivalent to a european 4-star hotel and the best hotel I have been to in West Africa. 15 minutes from the airport, and crew rates available (we paid 75 USD).
Tel : (+228)2276590
Fax : (+228)2277180

In Cotonou, try the Sheraton next to the airport.

In Ouaga, they have the Silmande Palace, which is once again good quality and where airline crews go.
Tel +226)356005
Fax +226)356054

In Abidjan, the best place is the Sofitel in the Plateau district. It is closer to the airport than the Ivoire, and the interior is much newer. Same prices however, and crew rates probably available.
Tel +225)20/221122
Fax +225)20/212028

Good luck.

Banjul. The Senegambia Beach Hotel (tel: 462717) at Kololi resort is reasonable. Rooms a bit small, but lovely gardens and public areas, nice pool and reasonable restaurants. Around $50-70 a night. The Kairaba Beach Hotel (tel: 462940), next door is also good and around $70 a night.

Ouagadougou. I like the Hotel Relax ((313231). Large comfortable rooms. Quiet. Breakfast by the swimming pool is nice.

Douala. Many flight crews stay in the Meridien but I prefer the Akwa Palace (tel:422601), where the cabin crew stay. Reasonable rooms, nice pool and quite a few restaurants close to the hotel. Probably get a room for between $40-70.
