Jobs in africa
HI, im a newly qualified commercial pilot and am battling to find a job. All the places i go to say that their insurance requires them to hire a pilot with minimum of 1000hrs So i was wondering if there is anyone out there that maybe has some advice for me on what routes i should take to get a job. Im willing to live anywhere so any job in africa or south africa will be awesome! I am a female pilot and was wondering if there are any companies that are battling to fill their quota of enough female pilots in their company because surely that would give me an opportunity...?

I can't personally offer any advice but I can point you to someone who may be able to.
There is a Female Pilot using the name Lizzard who posts on the African forum who may be able to help. She was able to offer advice to me on working in Botswana. Do a search under user name and see if you can e-mail her.
Cheers, Bill

hi there...
unfortunately you are among many 'low time' pilots looking for work at the moment, and like you say being a girl will definately be to your advantage, however, you may consider getting yourself a turbine rating,ie. a caravan or king air 200 which may make you more employable as a co-pilot initially.
feel free to email me for more advice.
also in jbg area.

Hi there,
Have you traveled up into southern Africa as yet, If not that would be your best bet, I hear the only way to get a start is to get up there and meet potential employers. Get your self up to Maun in Botswana, Lots of companies there have hired low time pilots on C206/210(Can't comment on the market right now) with the opportunity to progress onto Caravans and Islanders. Also Namibia and Zambia is worth a look in. I trained in SA and a lot of the guys i meet down there got there start that way.

I was in exactly the same situation untill a few months ago: lowtimer looking for work. Untill I decided to go knock on doors: last sept. i started my search in Dakar, traveled for 3 months trough West Africa and am now flying a Beech 1900.
There is only ONE advise: GET OUT THERE.
I think that Maun thing might be worth considering, pack a bag and go check it out. No lowtimer will get hired sending emails.
Best of luck!

Do you play the Piano??
In all seriousness, your just at the foot of the mountain. If thats what you want to do in your particular situation I think you should plan to go down there, beat on some doors and put your face to the resume. As a low timer its an uphill battle, that just sometimes, being there may get you some hours and food.
Resumes via the internet and FAXing for the most part go into the file. You know that file next to the closet where the phone is kept.......
Take cannot out of your vocabulary as folks will say you cant do this and that when you know it can be done. You just have to convince an employer he would be better off with you that to have you sitting on his front steps.
Good Luck

Hello, from the canadian north. I am also looking for work in africa and am looking to get on with a commuter/airline over there. I currently have 1300 tt with 500 multi command on pa-31 and b-55 flying in the north. My question to anyone out there who is in the know is what are the requirements to get on with a commuter ie. 1900's dash-8 etc. Can anybody help? Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!
