Unhappy Pilot dies in crash

A 23-year-old aircraft pilot was killed and her 22-year-old passenger injured when their Cessna 172 in crashed in the Kanoneiland area near Upington on Friday, Northern Cape police said on Saturday.

Captain Cherelle Ehlers said it was alleged that Annecke Fraser got lost and the aircraft ran out of fuel, but the exact cause of the accident was still to be determined.

She said Fraser died at the scene and Richard Kaufman, who sustained head injuries, was taken to a private hospital and later transferred to Bloemfontein.

Did she fly the West Africa route for DHL at a stage ?

Gunns Writes: " got lost and the aircraft ran out of fuel, "

Sad story for sure, but how does one get lost in SA?? As a stranger to a lot of the area , that needs a bit of explanation.......
Was this a low timer, did the aircraft have a radio etc.
