Beech 1900 SIC (or P2) checkout
Hi there,
Do I, as a FAA Comm ME IFR rated pilot , need a SIC or P2 checkout (or rating) flying a B190 right seat?
And if so: where can I get such a checkout (or rating) at a reasonable price? (Preferably in Africa)
Any help more than welcome,

For passenger transport under IFR, most countries require two-crew operation, and as P2 you can log the time provided you have the type-rating.
In South Africa you could get a P2 rating on the 1900 but I'm not sure how it would work with your FAA license. Your best bet is to ask somebody at Rossair, they have pilots from many countries flying their (ZS-registered) aircraft on contracts in Africa. Their base is at Lanseria airport, Johannesburg.
Might bump into you at BKO.

On the south side of FALA, at the NAC hangars there is a simi which can be used for convex's. It seems to be run by '43 Advanced Training'. Just drive in there and ask, if you're close by, or phone NAC if not. It's non-motion, and not all that specific apparently (its more B200-with-T-handle's than 1900) but hey!

B1900 rating
Im looking for advice on doing a B1900 rating in South Africa. Who does it, what are the costs? Im looking for a good, thorough rating that will be well accepted and not a quick 2 circuit, slap dash rating that will just end up being a waste of hard earned bucks!

there are a few possibilities here to do a 1900 rating, and a very useful rating to have here in SA once you have sme hours on it. the prices change all the time due to the unstable oil price so i unfortunately cannot help you there. my advice is to go with a reputable company such as 43advanced training at Lanseria in Johannesburg, they may be a litlle more than the rest, but certianly worth the money.

GR, not sure about solenta or fedair, but Robbie R's rating will probably set you back between 15 and 20k. if its initial turbine, you will have to do the B200 rating as well, and both together should be around 30k. keep in mind tho, that 30grand doesn't go far in a TT - it will only get you about 3 hours flight time.
not sure what 43 costs, but i know its expensive (me thinks its over 40k). also, their sim is a trainer so the cockpit mockup is somewhere between a 200 and a 1900. not quite ideal, but you should get about 15hours of flight time, a great deal more than you would on an actual aircraft.
in the end, most employers are still going to want time on type before they hire you, so be careful you don't spend all that money for nothing.

Be careful were you do your rating . FedAir's a wishy washy 1day theory 1.5 hr flown. Rest of training done "on-line" between jhb and lodges.
43 At Lanceria best but expensive. Solenta do in-house training at 43 for there own needs

43 Advanced Training
Hi all! Can anyone give me some advice on getting a 1900 rating? I hear 43 advanced training at lanseria offer the rating...feedback from any past students??? What are the chances of getting work after completing the rating these days? Heard ET are busy buying up a load of 1900's to ship up north. Thanks!

You can give the companies that use them on contract a call and ask
them if they can help you with a job if you do the rating. Depending on
the need they might even give you a rating under certain conditions.
Thats how I got mine and it worked. Look under earlier thread
"LET US VOTE CONTRACTORS" to find some companies that use the
1900.
