Helicopters in Kenya are the new status symbol for the rich and political. Its a burgeoning sector of aviation locally, but hard to break into. A lot of heli pilos are ex military and there are quite a few of these experienced aviators in the market. Most private helicopters are Eurocopters/Bells etc. There's a lot of kudos to being a heli pilot, but you need to be 'known' for anyone to let you loose on their prized possessions.

There is only one operator with R22/R44 which are used for training purposes and mini charters.

I believe there is one expat with no heli experience who has managed to get a two year (?) attachment to a heli operator with a view to a long distant future, but this is a freak rarity.

Reports about DKK are sketchy so far, but the story is that it was chartered out for local 'campaigning' and crashed near a lake on the Kenya/Tz border area. All five on board rumoured to have died. Nothing much in the local media.... very sad if its true.
