South African FO minimums

I am a South African citizen living in the US. I want to go back to South Africa to complete flight training. However I don't know much about the aviation industry in Africa. Do you need to hold an ATPL to be hired as a FO? I know airlines in the US are having a tough time hiring pilots because of the 1500 hour rule. What is the minimum in SA? How many hours do most first officers have when they get hired? Thanks everyone!

There is information freely available on the internet!
One suspects that competition for airline places is quite fierce with many applicants already having frozen ATPLs.
