Thumbs down another scam Hak Air Lagos, Nigeria

Pilots be on the lookout for this airline called Hak Air two pilots were supposed to do a Test flight followed by ferrying a 737-400 from Jakarta, Indonesia where Garuda maintenance had done work on the plane. there was a dispute over the invoice so the owner took off and left two pilots to fend for themselves and get there own tickets back home. They both did not get paid or reimbursed for their airline ticket to Jakarta.

thank you for your post Masagemarad. Many of us probably knew, but it hopefully will help some poor soul not in the know. Always nice to see a fellow aviator trying to prevent damage to others. Nigeria sometimes pays, and sometimes it does not.

I am surprised that airline professionals would actually spend money up front when working for a Nigerian company - there has been enough information on the internet and word of mouth about Nigerian practices.

Yes you are right pilots need to stop fronting there own airline tickets, this new generation of aviators are going against protocol no matter where you may be going to work in any country as you will always get screwed over. Never ever buy your own tickets and also insist on a rt ticket period.

The said gentlemen were not scammed, they were not very bright. Companies pay for your transportation when you are needed. Doing it the other way round means you're taking a risk, and might incur a loss. Which is what happened to these gentlemen. This can happen in any country of the world. That"s the price of education in the real world.

While it is true that this kind of thing could happen anywhere it's just more likely with a Nigerian company - if you leave the buggers an opening they will screw you. Unless you have actually done business there over a period then you have absolutely no idea of how deep the culture of corruption is embedded in Nigerian society. As an example I saw the national oil company building ablaze from end to end the morning after the government announced a new corruption inquiry - could not be extinguished because ' hoses could not reach'.The Abacha family by most estimates stole 6 billion dollars of oil revenue. If you are into crime, corruption and squalor,You will love the place.

Tolismsnk I don't think you have got the message - Nigeria is a squalid ,brutal and dangerous place. It is the only country where I went to work with bodyguards - armed with AKs or Fal automatic rifles.Do not work for a local company or you will get shafted - only ever work for a foreign company and not as a local hire.Pay nothing up front and if your salary is delayed, bail out immediately. Unless you are starving stay away - there are better places in Africa.
