Anyone out there with more info on an HS 748 crash in Malakal South Sudan?
Heard the engineer passed away -RIP, Capt seriously injured and F/O was not injured.
Also heard there was some heavy shooting in Malakal earlier today.
Anyone with any details?

Was sent this following report (and photo but can't seem to upload it here) of the crash...

Just hard news from Bentiu that a UN cargo plane crashed at the end of
the runway today at around 1430hrs. There was fireball into the air at
the time of crash, on board 4 crew member, 1 died on the spot outside
of the plane during rescue 3 have been taken to UNMISS. Beside that few
WFP cars parked at the airstrip to receive the plane caught fire and a
women standing at the airport was wounded. Unclear the type of the
aircraft it was.

Plane was too fast on approach, went in nose wheel first, bounce a couple of times and lost control.
It's a miracle nothing worst happen as they missed the fuel tanks by a couple of meters.
The lost of life is of course sad.

Reding the link displayed on this thread earlier it was seen to hit vehicles parked adjacent to the runway which casued the wing to shear, explosion and structural failure.Any further news on the surviving crew or official report from Sudan or Kenya?

748 crash

Just to put some factual corrections on this post---the 748 was not owned by 748 air services for the Hawker part of the operation was spun off as a seperate company last summer--it may well have been chartered through 748 air services as they have good experience of UN operations in that part of Africa----from an experienced 748 Pilot who knows the operation there is no suggestion that there was a anything incorrect or unsafe in the 748 approach but pat of the airframe hit 1/2 UN vehicles that were just too close---My thanx to Mobotu for part of this--this is a tragic accident which appears to have been avoidable--a crew member was killed---
