Ethiopian 767 Lands Arusha
A Boeing (looks like 767) has landed in Arusha due to 'technical reasons' - unmarked aircraft but rumoured to be operating for Ethiopian - the runway is far too short for a Boeing at Arusha and it is surprising given the very close proximity of Kili why they wouldn't got there? I think there has been a big mistake or a very serious technical fault!

Being reported in DAR - looks like the flight from ADD. No reports of casualties, but aircraft off the end of the runway (surprise, surprise...)

Latest news, Weather not a factors since its almost CAVOK. Kilimanjaro Airport was closed due to a Van on the Runway with a Flat tire. Ethiopian was approaching with minimum fuel, probably no fuel for even holding... What next, emergency landing in Arusha was the only choice for them I guess

ethiopian is offering regular service to arusha with b767 ... klm does it with a330 from ams (carrying tourists to the kilimajaro region) ... so, can´t be too much of a problem ...
Sf25,
Kilimanjaro region means they fly to a a 3km RWY at HKIA not a 1.6km RWY at HTAR.
Good job on getting it in especially landing on RWY 27, bad job for running low on gas

Landed there in a C206 a few years Go , remember the grass coming out the asphalt here and there , the end of it being covered by grass . Maybe it was redone since . But must be in bad shape now as a 767 surely exceed its weight category by a large margin . Someone has a recent VAC ?

Latest rumor is that the pax are still on board, so no need for emergency evacuation. Driving air stairs from Kili to Arusha, so should take at least two hours to make the drive up there if the damn thing does not break down on the way or get run off the road by a truck.

Couple more photos of ET-AQW. Aircraft clearly run off the runway and is stuck in the grass. Aircraft run out of fuel while holding near Kilimanjaro Airport. Not enough reserve fuel to fly to alternatives like Mombasa,Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam. Mombassa is not even 150 NM from JRO.
Original destination Kilimanjaro JRO was closed to due Cessna Caravan on runway with flat tyre.

At least they'd thoughtfully taken off the markings before it landed so as to save any corporate embarrassment Well done to the crew for getting down without any casualties though.

REALLY.....???????????????????
It may be a remarkable landing for such a large bird at such a small airport, particularly as there are no injuries or major damage.... however, I have to ask "WHAT WAS IT EVEN DOING THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE??"
What happened to the good old fashioned PPL stuff that says you have enough fuel to destination AND then onto your planned alternative? Its short sighted to say the least to not even have enough to get from Kili to JK - all of 130nm??
Sorry, but having no injuries at the end of this fiasco does NOT make this crew heroes in my book. No way, no how!!
