Good website for satellite/ radar pictures West Africa?
Back to West Africa soon.
Been a while since I operated over there. Searching for good websites where I can find satellite and/or radar images of this interesting area. Thanks in advance for useful links and hints...

Eumetsat has great satellite imagery covering the whole continent . Takes a little while to search through the website initially .
examples :EUMETSAT IPPS animation - Meteosat 0 degree Visible 0.6 Central Africa
EUMETSAT IPPS animation - Meteosat 0 degree Visible 0.6 Western Africa
Those are visible images for central and west africa today
Below is the link to the west african IR image :
EUMETSAT IPPS animation - Meteosat 0 degree Infrared 3.9 Western Africa
Anyway , have a play with it , I'm sure you'll find it quite useful

AllMetSat (be sure to check issue dates/times...!):
Africa
NOAA Int'l Sat shots:
AWC - International Satellite Imagery
Similar stuff to AllMetSat, but I like their bigger water vapour shot:
NRL Satellite Page
Basic Sat:
weather.com - Map Room - Satellite Map, Weather Map, Doppler Radar Africa: Satellite
All the above are generally similar, but sometimes one is more up-to-date than the others...
Lastly I'll include a link that's not sat/radar but has loads of wx analyses and forecasts:
Medium Range Forecasts for Africa
Just out of curiosity, to where in West Africa are you heading?

I'm currently involved in a project to expand the European Meteosat met products to cover West Africa. We hope to make them available next summer, so just this is a bookmark to remind me to come back when they're online.
A few (big picture) examples of what is generated for Europe:

http://www.nwcsaf.org/NRT_images/SAF...-MAG1-LAST.GIF
In the meantime I'd also recommend these images in addition to those already suggested.
Convective indications: EUMETSAT IPPS animation - Meteosat 0 degree Convection Full disc high resolution
Strong convection normally shows up as yellow. High(ish) clouds as pink, everything else as purple.
This image of cloud height can also be useful: EUMETSAT IPPS animation - Meteosat 0 degree Cloud Top Height
Although it does have a habit of overestimating the heights for Africa. As of now it's saying there's clouds up to about 19km in Central Africa in reality they're more like 17km.

A very old post but I recently set up a site putting all EUMETSAT images for Africa in one place which might be useful to some of you. It's at africanweather.co.za
