I'm not working as a pilot. Who would hire a Mauritian with only a CPL? Only MK could do that, like most companies are doing with their own nationals. Yet they hire only 3 or 4 while there are are like 77 CPL holders in this country.

And don't believe in the crap that you cannot fly jets with 250hrs and that you have to fly the ATR first and since there are only 2 ATRs so they cannot absorb more low hours pilots. This is utter bull****. My friends who trained with me went straight to the B737 with just a CPL.

Basically they dont want to hire Mauritians. They are just being pressurised to.

Hi All,

I am very touched to hear that you can't get a job in your own country yet you have all the right qualifications. I hope they don't favour foreigners over you guys.

Why don't you guys try bush piloting in Botswana or Namibia? You can build some reasonable hrs over some years. That will place you in a better place than the current hrs you got. Also if you achieve 1,500hrs and get your ATP license you have chances to get work in UAE.

Out of curiosity how many TT hrs do Mauritians have after completing their CPL i assume your CPL comes with ME/IR.

@ gear up job
Yes they do favour foreigners. These guys are hired with a 2-3 years contract, get their rating and off they leave the company after their contracts end. More than 2/3 of the pilot workforce are expats i believe and their movement within the company is just ridiculous. While it would have been much more efficient to hire the locals.
I'm not against hiring foreigners at all, but they just do it to keep the aircrafts flying and their work condition is awful. But at the end of the day, they have their ratings and can move on to greener pastures.

Spot on @ airlinedream

Back to the actual topic:
For those going for the assessments; do understand that the aim is to eliminate as much candidates as possible. Remember:
1) Practice makes perfect (or almost)
2) Quick Thinking
3) Thinking out of the box

If you guys become pilots one day (i'm sure you all will), you will find the above extremely useful

You are absolutely right Aladin, everytime i fly onboard MK, i ask to go meet the captains and FO's for a quick chat and its usually about MK's internal affairs. Every single expats i have met have told me that they are just profiting from the job offer.. After obtaining hours on A330/340, they plan to move to Etihad, Emirates or better companies. As per what i heard off the local pilots on those jets, they always tell me that they are fed up with the company, there are too many bullsh*ts going on and the management is worst that anything you can imagine.

MK reflects the actual political state of the country...
They are not willing to hire locals as too many of them will create an "unbalance in the force" and the dark side might no longer rule.

Everyone knows that if MK wants to survive it has to find a strategic partner. Air Seychelles did and they are now doing so well nowadays with Etihad. Why the Mauritian Govt not willing to? Its all about the privileges, the acquired and the dynasties ruling the island.

Airlinedream,

Lufthansa are only acting as consultants. At the end of the day, its the local panel which will decide who will be deemed appropriate to be selected. They hired Lufthansa Consulting just to avoid the mess which occurred last time whereby ICAC had to intervene and eventually cancelled the whole selection process. Just trying to make it look more professional from now on.

airlinedream and Royal_Eagle

Well said airlinedream. I am pretty sure you will mate it lad. With such outstanding qualifications, its just a matter of time lad. Just continue doing what you are doing, most important stay current and try to build those hours quick.

Royal_Eagle everyone who applies for Qatar Wings program gets it. Like i don't know who hasn't. For £105,000 who wouldn't get it. You should ask yourself is it worth it to pay £105,000 to live in a sandpit in Doha, tax free but nowhere near cost free plus there are no guarantees with anything like most other programs. Remember Qatar offers sponsorship to Qatari nationals who will always take first place over you in anything and everything!

Well airlinedream and Aladin lays everything which needs to be said here. This selection is getting dubious. Are there other wannabees who have not been selected although they think they should have? If anyone gets any post/mail concerning a second selection batch, kindly wave the news.thanks.

Is this for real??

@ Aladin,
maybe you are right...But this selection is getting really lousy. No offence meant to those who were selected for the first stage. I would encourage Airlinedream to share his insight on this...

Shame

I was told they just hired a guy for the Mauritian Pilot Development Programme who did his training in the US.

Surprisingly on the advert they highlighted an FAA or equivalent qualification.

While MK or even the DCA strictly adhere to JAR/EU OPS. Bizarre Bizarre

For those of you you who werent called for assessments cheer up because you'll have a shot when they hire again because for those who have gone through and failed thats it for their career with MK. I was told I could never re-apply to MK when I falied Stage 3 which was the interview. I do admit I messed up but to effectively end my best chance of a career in aviation and write off my dreams after one bad interview to me seems over the top. MK has nothing to do with this however as it is the DLR's policy. It'll be a cold day in hell when I decide to give up on my dream because a psychologist told me I couldnt become a pilot and that whatever I lacked during that interview I will lack my whole life. All we can do folks is to prove them wrong. For those who have gone through wish you all the best and hope to see you up there one day

Yes.. guy with ppl, faa licence went through passed all tests, was apparently at the airport for some post screening paperworks. While I recall extremely well it was mentioned only cpls on their advert. Correct me if im wrong. No wonder people are getting sacked off the company recently.
