Jambo Jet

Any rumour on K.A. subsidiary Jambo Jet ?

Jetlink is awakening and might tie with FastJet which will gang up on Kenya Airways' market share and with the downturn in Kenya's economy likely after recent events, J.A. was K.A.'s armour to fend off LCC competition. Will it also awaken the roaring Lion?

This should translate into a windfall of employment opportunities for unemployed Kenyan Pilots let us hope it is true!

Will applicants apply via standard direct entry K.A. scheme? Will jambo host its own career website?

An ex KLM Dutch Mr.Willem...has already been given the Mandate for the post of CEO by "Dr" Naikuni.

Initially they were to operate K.A. E-jets but now due to capacity limitations K.A. will lend them their old 737-300 -good move to escape rising costs on K.A. by trimming its old fat but not a good move for Jambo if high utilization and dispatch reliability is factored in as it should for an LCC carrier in my opinion.

Likely they will seek rated and experienced pilots.Likely they will get from their PW stock too...and help alleviate PW's current plight.

Monitor cabin crew recruitment at Jambo to provide further leads!

hey, welcome back VC10. Haven't seen your posts around the african gossip quartier for quite a while :-) but yeah, we are all anxiously awaiting to hear when the launch date will be. Given the current state of the Kenyan aviation industry, I'm sure this will finally create some movement in the pilot unemployment lines! Great news for piston hoppers out of wilson!

however, on a slightly more down to earth note, it wouldn't be the first time we have heard rumours of startups. So perhaps it would be better to celebrate once we actually hear the callsign "jambo" on the airwaves?

Kibs2005

Thanks

This could be true.I today managed to confirm it with a K.A. official but the recruitment process has not been time-lined yet but will be advertised widely close to the time. The fact that a CEO has been appointed officially (go to the KQ website on Newsletter) is a convincing landmark. He will need time to set up his team and work out a strategy.
I believe the main Airports of Kenya and East Africa wil be served in direct competition with the local LCCs but they are eyeing Jeddah as their overseas launch destination. There will be lots of demand with Muslim pilgrims and Kenya labourers to Saudi.

I am confident this time it shall awaken as KQ is going to suffer more assault by the economic doldrums thjat loom ahead due to the ongoing crisis a traffic demandnd LCC ops is one way to stimulate air traffic demand.

It is high time our wings start growing again...Let us pray...and I trust Jambo will be colour blind and tribe blind!

My only worry is that it shall be a windfall for Precision's 733 pilots if they demand. Experience on type. The dutch CEO was a vice president for Commercial with a Dutch Airline TransAvia...so yo can expect he is going to kick butt and ensure this airline meaures up the way KLM moulded K.A.

LOL Tribe blind ???

You're joking right ?

Good luck to people that care about tribal issues. We live in the 21st century folks

Boeing and Airbus did not design aircraft with "tribal error" in mind !!!

As always with everything in this country, unfortunately people can't really turn a blind eye towards your ancestry. So much so, that some of us have even resorted to using the "Christian" name so that people cannot pick up on what tribe you are at first contact. Small measure, but just a chance to at least try and level the playing field.

But in any case, if you are right about the B733s being used by the startup, I do fear you are right about the precision pilots getting first crack. Last I heard, precision wasn't doing to well and they were either getting rid of their jet fleet or closing up shop (pressure from greybird perhaps?). I may very well be wrong on that, but this is a rumour site though, right?

Ghost rider...Tribe blind

No am not joking actually. It is a distinctly Kenyan experience...and KQ is notoriously tribal..not just for deck crew but also cabin crew.If you are blind to that fact better survey the employee names at KQ and you will discover it yourself.Let's not start a tribal qubble here.It would seem you are the only one that seems to think KQ is not nepotistic and that tribal issues do not matter in Kenya..where were you at the elections? And the not so distant post election clashes? It is the 21st century in my calender ..I don't know about yours Boeing and Airbus might not be tribal ..but employers are..so you can laugh through your posterior if you find that amusing..
