Lightbulb Air Link And Zim Pilots

Air Link employed some guys from Zimbabwe to fly inside Zim and operate to and from SA in some alliance with a Zim carrier. The whole deal has fallen through.

Now Link management wants to retain the Zim pilots and have them flying in South Africa. This, when so many local guys have been furloughed ?

Management argues that the company has spent so much training the Zim guys that it makes sense to keep them.

Surely this is an unfair labour practice. The employment of the Zim pilots may have been justified by the deal and flights in Zimbabwe. But now to keep them while locals are out of jobs is just insane.

This decision must be tested in court. The Link Union must declare a dispute and argue this out at the CCMA. At the very least, the local pilots should be given options to make proposals on training on the Jet.

A unilateral decision to employ foreigners just because some money has been invested in them cannot be justified and one would hope that the CCMA wil rule against it.

Air Link Management have got away with alot in the last year, but in this instance, they may just be pushing their luck. Business decisions can be understood to a point, but when they clearly prejudice existing, loyal employees, one has to wonder.

This one should go to the Constitutional Court !!!

FAIR IS FAIR

coanda

You make an accusation against a named individual. Should you wish to do so, then please provide us with your real name and contact details beforehand. This will allow any counter claim and possible legal action to be directed towards you and not PPRuNe.

Thanks

Freightman,
Right U R. If this is fact it is highly unexeptable. My advice will be to contact ALPA-SA. I know Dept. Manpower check with them before they issue any work permit to foreign pilots.

Thumbs down Do not take this crap !

Guys and girls,

For too long we (South African Pilots) have just taken the brunt and let things go for what it's worth like affirmative action and these crap.

Take these guys to the constitutional or highest courts PLEASE !

Wish I was involved or could give assistance because that is what is needed RIGHT NOW !

Good luck !

Talking about it is just blowing hot air. And saying "must" turns your expressions into jokes. Nobody "must" do anything when someone else makes a statement.

Stop chatting nonsense anonymously on a worldwide Forum and actually do something.

If you are a Member of any Union, make a written and signed enquiry or complaint, have a copy notarised for your own records (or send a sealed copy to yourself - do NOT open the envelope when it arrives, but keep it ina safe place) and send the original to the Union's Secretary for action.

If you are not a Member of a Union, then address your enquiries or concerns to the head of the appropriate government department and ask for a response and follow it up. Copy your correspondence to the appropriate Union/s, and note the cc's at the bottom of the letters.

Include any solid evidence you have or rumours you may have heard so they have starting points for their enquiries - airline names, individuals, dates, places, whatever.

Ask for feedback, and provide your contacts so they can get further details if they are needed.

In practical terms, just blowing hot air here does absolutely zero to solve a problem - if there is one.

African skies - I agree wholeheartedly - they should really employ some Ivorians and Gabonians - That is where the ATRs are based and making money aren't they ? - and perhaps they can employ some of Link Zim pilots on the ATR that is rumored to be doing the Harare - Johannesburg run . Problem solved !!
Then everybody can be happy!

Seriously guys I think that you are convieniently forgetting that plenty of SA pilots are still working in Namibia, Bots, dare I say it Zim etc ( not to mention contract flying)which is not always a popular thing with those locals either as the SA pilots often get work with low hours and a low pay at the expense of the locals (who actually need to be able to make a living on their salary as they are not moving on to bigger and better things in SA).

Jobs are very scarce in SA right now and foreigners should definetely be 2nd choice over SA pilots but don't be holier than the pope !!

SSSSTEAM!!
Have fun - if its no fun try waitressing
P.S. Are those Argentinians still hanging around ?? Not much info reaches these parts of Africa
