Caverton Helicopters Gets First DH6 400 in Nigeria

Caverton Helicopters has taken delivery of Nigeria's first DHC6-400 Twin Otter. The aircraft which flew from Canada and Iceland on registration C-GUVA is now 5N-SHE, so presumably will be used on the Shell contract.
Viking purchased the manufacturing rights for a number of discontinued de Havilland Canada designs from Bombardier in 2006 (except for the Dash 8) and now manufactures and sells the Twin Otter with upgraded PT6A 34/5 engines and the Honeywell Primus digital flight instrument suite. The original Twin Otter, many of which were operated by Aero Contractors went into decline after the old ACN Warri airstrip was closed to most fixed wing traffic once the new airport at Osubi opened. The aircraft was always a strong, reliable STOL performer, although with only 19 seats and a cruising speed about the same as most helicopters it's difficult to see if it will make a come-back in Nigeria. Whether it does or not, it will be good to see this old stalwart in the Nigerian skies again

Caverton has always operated 2 twin otters (300 series) for years in Nigeria on the NLNG contract and other contracts so this is not really the return of he twin otter to Nigerian skies.

However, like you rightly said, this will be the first twin otter 400 series in Nigeria. If it will be used for the shell contract, I am not so sure of that.

DHC8,
I know about the old DHC6-300s, but when I talked about the return of this old stalwart I was meaning that I wondered if we'd ever see anything close to the numbers when Aero were flying them for quite a number of clients, plus of course the Exxon/Mobil one from Eket. I doubt it, the day of the Twin Otter has come and gone.
I think 5N-SHE will be operating for Shell, or at least doing some flying for themj not only because of the registration but also it has some modifications specifically required by Shell, but not necessarily by the NCAA.
