Recent info Chad, CAR and Uganda, please

Have a proposed delivery flight and plan on crossing Algeria, Chad and CAR on way to Entebbe.

On embassy websites, they indicate no exceptions to requirements for visas, but what is the realistic situation? Tech-stop with overnight for crew members without visas? Any "stay away from" or recommendations for night stops?

If All the crew members need visas for each country, it will take several weeks delay!

Thanks locals!

Hi,

If you are planning to ferry a single engine, just a reminder that single-engine flights in Algerian airspace are limited to day-VFR, at least a few years back that was the case.

Chad could be a problem without a visa even for crew members if leaving the airport. CAR and Uganda has no issues with gendec forms, although if Uganda is your final destination and you are planning to leave on a commercial flight it is worth stamping in and paying the transit visa fees (around 50USD per person) at the airport. Overflight and landing clearances are required for all the above mentioned countries and landing fees are preferred in cash, USD, recent post-2006 notes. Make sure you have plenty of smaller notes since they never have change...

Also be prepared for ramp checks from some of the most difficult civil aviation officials out there...

JETA1 is available but it's worth pre-booking it. AVGAS not so much...piston operators (if any...) usually import their own.

One more thing on Bangui, CAR: customs prefer working from late in the morning until early evening despite the airport being 24/7...

cheers

Ps.: just a glance through the You Know You Are In Africa When..... topic will give you most of what you just about to encounter...

Rather just use a company like UAS, its a Dubai based company but work worldwide. They will handle everything down to the hotel you want to stay at, all overflight clearances, fuel, food etc, anything you want. They will tell you exactly what you need. Used them before and they were perfect, flew half way around the world, North to South and not one problem. Drop them an email and ask if they have a South Afican contact who will give you a quote on what it will cost, they will cover all your bases.

Thanks for the updates! Jet fuel, so no problems with that aspect. Good tip on HUEN.

Thanks

We delivered two ERJ-145s to Accra through Entebbe and Bangui in the last few weeks with no problems.

Jetex in Dubai did all the flight clearances for us and the crew reported no significant issues with facilities en route.

CAR Bangui......

For CAR I recomend Moussa from Minair +2367250516 [email protected]
They are the only real operator there and have maintenance facilities should you require - he will also pay your taxes for you in CFA's at the correct rate and organise your fuel - most importand if you need to stay he will show you the local nightlife if your curriosity demands.......
They also have a base in Chad so he could arrange there also for you
Hope this helps!
