Which airport in Joburg
Hi all
I am just about to do my first Biz jet trip across to Africa from Australia.
Just looking for advice on which airport to use in Joburg - my UV trip planner tells me there are 3 to choose from - Joburg International, Lanseria and Rand.
Does anyone have any recommendations considering convenience, cost, service.
Also, after landing, I have to go to Joburg international to get a domestic flight to Capetown with SAA - how far are the other two from the main strip.
Thanks guys.

Which Airport?
As far as which airport is most convenient, if you have to take SAA to Cape Town after landing (which appears a little strange as you are flying in from Australia, why not go directly to FACT International?), then FAJS would be the most convenient. If you can afford to fly a Biz Jet from Oz to ZA, why worry about landing fees and airport charges? Just change your flight plan and go directly to FACT.

If you're coming in direct, FAJS and FALA are your only two ports of entry. FALA probably easier if you then head to CT on Kulula or 1Time. FAJS will give you more choice of carriers but it can be a little more crazy (although no one ever accused the jobsworths at FALA of being easy to deal with).

FALA is probably the best for bizjet arrivals, FAJS is airline territory.
FALA - FAJS by road is maybe 30 minutes, mostly on the freeway or you could use a helicopter transfer if your pax are feeling rich.
You will be messed around for at least 30 minutes at FAJS immigration so heads you win, tails you lose.
OTOH, coming from Oz it would be much simpler to avoid Joburg and go direct to FACT.

He is flying the pax to JHB!!
Then he is paxing down to CT.
It's not that hard people.
Would love to see you guys tell your pax : FU we are not going to JHB, we are going to Cape Town because it's easier for me.
> Trevor, fly to FALA, Lanseria, and arrange a transfer for yourself to JHB Ineternational for your flight to CT, OR catch a flight to CT directly from Lanseria.
PM me if you want some help and contacts for handling at FALA.

Trevor,
Amazing how complicated some people make things. Pirate though is correct:
1. Fly to Lanseria - that is the bizjet hub in South Africa
2. A number of LCCs operate to Cape Town from Lanseria, or
3. Plan on 45mins to an hour to transfer by road to OR Tambo International for your CPT flight.
Hope all goes well.

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR HELP.
I guess I didin't explain it fully enough, but IR Pirate and Jeffersen have it pretty right.
We actually fly in from Mauritius to Capetown. 6 days later I take the aircraft owners up to Johannesburg where they stay for 5 days. My family are going commercial from Oz to Capetown. When I go up to Joburg, they will stay in Capetown, so after landing in Joburg, I will lock the doors on the jet and then pax back down to Capetown to rejoin my family and head off down to the beautiful Garden Route to explore and relax.
Hope that answers some of the questions about my seemingly "dumb" trip planning.
ZS-FOY. You asked "why worry about costs when you can afford to fly a bizjet from Oz to ZA." I know on the face of it that is a fair question. But time in Corporate flying for extremely wealthy people teaches one that, despite fabulous wealth, high wealth individuals tend to watch the bottom line just as hard as you and I. My job as Captain is to get them where they need to be safely and efficiently and in generally the most cost effective way. If I can't do that then I will probably lose the best job on the planet.
Thank you all again very very much. Lanseria it is, and I will use Pirates advice and try to fly Lanseria back to CPT.
