Air Mauritius - DFO questioned by authorities on corruption

Looks like the DFO of MK was questioned by anti corruption brigade during an investigation recently. Any latest on this matter?

@ Airman07...Does that mean that the last recruitment was cancelled or that they won't recruit low hour Mauritians anymore?

The April 2011 campaign was cancelled. They might recruit next year.. but we'll have to wait and see. There's considerable pressure on MK to recruit from the bottom again. But now things aren't so simple.. Frozen vertical hierarchy, Lufthansa Audit and Mauritians just won't let them go about their usual business of hiring only their relatives.

Banny could easily makes things easier and smoother at ops but his arrogance is above all.We are all convinced that it is his turn to visit the psycologist!!! His usual technique to get rid of the ones that he does not like.
Wonder WHY none of them at flight ops management got not pull over for psycho problems. Believe me, flight ops needs serious treatment. ?????

Well,well, even if master Puppet goes ,Bugs Banny, same crap will still be going on. Just look who is in line to take over......Dream Team is completely corrupted and incompetent, I don't have to put names down to show my point, they are all !!!

The lame excuse of not having enough hours on the ATR to move to the jets. Gee I wonder how all the other airlines without turboprops do ot recuit freshers!!! Must be rocket science!

Article out in l'express dimanche by jonathan bouic about icac investigation. ICAC's response to questions leaves a lot to be desired... They are talking about jealousy of non-selected candidates. What nonsense! Kinda sums up where this inquiry is going..

A concerted effort in paradise for real change, that is what mauritian pilots need.. For as long as pilots hesitate to get together against all this unfairness.. there's not going to be any change. Keep investing millions and keep getting nothing..! TADA!

Most probably they need to recruit. But if Banny & Co does the recruitment again, I do not think the locals will stand a chance. MK had been very anti Mauritian on pilot recruitement in the almost last 20 years since Banny Evil Empire had taken over.

The province’s plans to lure international airlines to the King Shaka International Airport has been dealt a blow with Air Mauritius’s announcement of plans to discontinue its direct route to Durban.

The airline, one of only three to fly internationally out of Durban’s King Shaka, has decided to close its Durban route from October after a record loss was reported for the last financial quarter – a loss of R2.8 million – compared with a profit of R12.6m last year.

As part of the airline’s cost-saving plan, direct flights from Mauritius to Milan, Sydney and Melbourne will be cancelled from June, while flights to and from Geneva, Frankfurt, Bangalore, Munich, and Durban will be discontinued in October.

“Having reviewed Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Durban, it is far more lucrative to focus on the economic powerhouse of South Africa – Gauteng – for future growth prospects,” said Air Mauritius regional manager Carla da Silva.

For those who have already booked their direct flights to Mauritius after October, the airline has promised to re-book alternative flights at no extra cost.

She said the airline would launch a second daily flight from Johannesburg, which would provide additional capacity during the peak-season.

But with Air Mauritius pulling out of King Shaka International Airport, only two international airlines remain – Emirates, which offers a direct flight to Dubai, and Air Mozambique, offering direct flights to Maputo.

Air Mauritius’s decision will concern Premier Dr Zweli Mkhize, who said in his State of the Province address last week that he wanted to increase the number of international tourists to the province and that meetings would be held with the national government to discuss a strategy to promote direct landing at King Shaka.

Ndabezinhle Sibiya, spokesman for the Premier’s office, said Mkhize was disappointed by the news, but the province would continue to look for ways to stimulate the tourism industry and to push for international events in Durban.

“Through these kinds of events, we are able to market Durban as a destination of leisure and business and also for foreign investment,” he said.

Tourism companies have expressed concern with the airline’s decision.

“Durban passengers are losing the convenience of a direct service to Mauritius,” said Margaret Park, product manager of Holiday Tours.

Beachcomber Tours managing director, Terry Munro, said the company would assist those who had already made bookings, and suggested that more direct flights between Mauritius and Cape Town would be advantageous.


My guess they will have too many pilots now. What a downhill road this dream team has made!!!

Not surprising though - It's proof of how CORRUPTED and INCOMPETENT some individuals are - how chaotic the whole situation is.

Local newspaper talking about how Bannymandhub and his team is sucking money out of Air Mauritius despite huge loss at the National Airline. Big Fiesta among themselves. The rest of the people they don't care.Mafia???????
These guys does not really know aviation, they know only one company and they mind are blocked and stubborn.Now, what is really happening with this corruption case and this traffic of infleunce on recruiting pilots? Are these guys gaining commission on Simulator rentals??????????????????This is why, they prefered expats to locals, so that there is a huge movement of expats in and out Air Mauritius. Simulators are use more often than needed them. So, we ask ourselves, don't we suspect that this is done purposely to gain commision on SIMs????????
Why Mauritians pilot can't get a job? It is simple some guys will not be able to get their belly full!
Think again.
