Aviation Apps

Hi all,

Currently looking for an android and my choice eventually goes to either the Samsung Galaxy S2 or Iphone 4.
Which would be best in terms of aviation apps. I know that the Iphone has quite some good features but the Samsung seems better specced.

I am not clever in these matters hence the following stupid questions: Can the current apps on Iphone be installed on the samsung. I know that the Iphone has a good software for Metars/TAFs/Aerodromes.. Are those aviation apps downloadable for free? Is the Samsung equipped with an equivalent good app?

Thank you.

Hi Voyager !
Android & IOS ( iPhone Operating System ) Apps are not compatible so you couldn't run an iPhone app on your Android device.

There are plenty of apps available for most mobile platforms. Most of these also have a free version. The free versions are usually limited in functionality and include some type of advertisement as well.

Good luck with your Android !

I am personally an iPhone/iPad man myself and love the aviation software I run on it.

Let me know if there is anything else !!!

IPhone run different apps than android and cannot be installled on both unless the developer makes too versions.

Though I am on android, I would suggest iPhone to you. Greater range of apps and easier to use than android (IMHO)

If you want to get technical, android offers greater flexibility - for instance I have my upcoming roster on the home screen.

Thx for the replies guys. Indeed the Iphone is the smartphone of choice when it comes to aviation.Great to use features for commercial/general aviation.

Have had the opportunity to research; and apparently iphone 5 is getting released 5th October US and maybe 15th worldwide, should be more or less same price as iphone 4 and not very different. Only rumours for now though.
