Cool Visiting Wilson Airport

Hello everyone,

I am currently in Nairobi and being a commercial pilot and (most of all) planespotter, I wondered if there is chance to go down to Wilson and check out the airport, maybe taking a few photos on the ramp or so. Isn't there a flying club that has a bar? It's the first time in Kenya for me, but definitly not the last and it would be nice to get in touch with some of the locals. I am still available tomorrow and Thursday, before leaving for Frankfurt on the MD-11 again...
Any info/contacts are highly appreciated

Youare looking for the Aero club of East Africa, at Wilson Airfield. If you see my old mate Mark Hyatt there, tell him Lindsay says Hi. Been many years!

Be aware that most police and airport security in Kenya tend to assume that anyone taking photos of airplanes with big cameras is probably planning something sinister. So ramp access for just photographing might be "challenging". However, the aero club is still a very nice place to be.

Okay, thanks for the advice. I might go the club today and see what it looks like.

Best wishes,

Felix

Wish you luck

i wish you luck, i am a local kenyan and love anything aviation related infact am hoping to be a pilot someday, i was once at the wilson airport and decided to see if i could get afew photos in and out of some aircrafts, BOY!!! Oh!!! BOY!!! , i was asked amillion questions about my intentions and they could not understand why anyone would want aircraft photos just for "fun" ,and finally i was not allowed to take asingle photo, i felt really bad especially these one office i visited inside a hangar and what hurt most was that there was a small cessna maybe ten feet away and two pilots were standing next to it talking and still i was not allowed asingle step near it in the name of "security". Can someone please tell this people someone with bad intentions will most likely have a hidden camera and will not be holding abig camera in his hands and asking for permission to take pictures.
