Hi guys!

Any idea why FAPN is closing end of September and when it will re-open. AIRAC AIP SUPP says indefinite/until further notice.

Sad news

Im not sure why it would be closing but the facilities are fantastic. It can't be good for Sun City who surely have plenty of their VIP's and customers through their doors that land at FAPN (I was one of them!!) The closest 'proper' fully functional airport is now Lanseria??

Im sure there must be a valid reason as I can think of 50 other airports that should be closed before FAPN!!! There must be a good reason.

Hi guys, this is the answer I got from my friend who was a former controller there:

ACSA Airports company south Africa have pulled out of Pilanesberg as they are running at a loss so there is no fire cover at the airport Municipality EMS is being used as an alternate. So ATNS have to apply to SACAA for a new license to control that aerodrome with limited fire cover. Politics ??? The government won’t foot the bill hence ACSA pulled out. Pilanesberg won’t close well not now any way because of Sun City.

FAPN CLosing

Thanks for the info. So, the way it seems is that ACSA is going, but the airport is going to remain open? If so, that probably won't affect the part 135 and private guys, but maybe the part 121's? And also I assume that immigration will go too? Pity. Its always been a great place to fuel up before heading north (or clear in and top up before heading down to CT). Despite R12.00 a litre for Jet. And no cafe!

If anyone gets an update, I'ld like to hear whats happening.

Thanks
