Is Air Zim flying these days?

Hi All,

Quick question, Is Air Zimbabwe flying a scheduled service at the moment? As per their web site it states pilots are on strike.Can anyone confirm/deny this?

Saw one of their old-looking 767's at LGW last week. Shame on them, flying Mugabe around, but I guess a job's a job. Until they go on strike.

Air Zimbabwe website says:

"Air Zimbabwe continues its strike demanding full payment of arrears and salaries pending from last year. The carrier going through a hard time, had recently increased its facilities for passengers that includes baggage allowance, ore flights and better air craft’s however the ongoing cancellations of flights due to Pilot strike.

Reports indicate that the carrier has stated that its current financial state does not allow the payment of arrears the is around 9 million US dollars and that the airline would much appreciate if the pilots can resume their jobs while strike continues. However, so far both parties fail to reach a conclusion and the strike has reached into day five.
Moreover, as flight cancellations continue the airline has requested its customers to stay up to date by checking the Air Zimbabwe websites, tweets or dialing to airline to confirm their flight schedules. Also, any air Zimbabwe customer should not go to airport without confirming flights schedules in advance in the coming days as well."

A340s

Air Zimbabwe bought two new A340-200s, financed by Mbada Diamonds (Zimbabwe), with delivery expected during 3Q 2011

I have a friend who used to work for Air Rhodesia and is still in contact with people who currently work for its successor, and they have stated that this is not substantiated.

What's the point if they can't afford to pay the drivers? Besides 777'swould have been a wiser choice I don't believe they fly any ETOPS 180 routes plus their (on strike) crew is already Boeing familiar.

@737
just compare lease rates or 2nd hand purchasing price of 340-200 vs. 777 - then you will know why they seem to be going for the more affordable solution for them
