Exclamation cocky safari link dash8 captain closes eyes when taxying!

A mate told me that our boys at safarilink taxied their dash 8 right wing into the tail of a poor Tanganyika flying company caravan! Although the "security check" at Wilson has been an accident waiting to happen, I'm just sorry it happened to a 5H reg, and not to our cocky boys who find it ever so hard to give proper timely position reports in airspace that they believe belongs to them!

Um, your post isn't very clear...surely not just a 5H reg was involved? Isn't the Dash 5Y registered??? What is Tanganyika Flying Co? Where are they based?

Yup the dash is 5y, and it wasn't the fault of 5H caravan. He was just parked at customs and the arrogant dash 8 captain obviously wasn't looking when he taxied past! on a amusing note, the dash skipper was rumored to become suffering links chief pilot!

I might get some bashing for this..
But unfortunately you need to screw up in
GA to get into the national airline or get a
promotion! Sad but true in this part of the world!
Did they mention incident and accident free hours??

We move over 1000 people a year with Safarilink between WIL and JRO; I am sure it was nothing personal! Also I think you forgot to mention that the Safarilink aircraft was being directed by a marshaller. Our main concern that our aircraft would not be fit to fly the following day - it was with minimal superficial damage. During the peak reliability is always a factor. KAA really need to do something fast about their whole customs area.

Nothing personal I'm sure mate! Marshaller or no Marshaller, the responsibility does however fall on the shoulder of the chap in the left seat! I do however agree with you that something needs to be done about the customs/(security check) area, either move it, extend it or scrap it for local flights

Bush Man

I cannot see them scrapping the requirement for local flights to go through customs as they are so worried you might forget to pay your pax tax to KRA. Moving it would be the best bet....or alternatively move the Bluebird aircraft to free up more space. I thought BB were supposed to have a massive new facility?

Think of all the time, hassle and fuel that would be saved if we didn't have to go through the rigamarole of having to taxi through to customs, across the active runway, wait creating fumes, noise and generally adding to the confusion and danger to other aircraft and passengers, before having been thoroughly and extensively inspected [not] for contraband, drugs, stoways, bombs and other Bin Laden look-alikes, being able to taxi back against the flow of inbound traffic to the active runway.... .Its MADDENING! And does not achieve the KAA or KCAA or USA objective of safety/security!

This time was a little ding - but its only going to be time before there is a proper accident there - either totalling an aircraft or wiping out passengers or both. It would be wonderful if logic could prevail. The other day it took 25 minutes to just reach the runway... and oodles of fuel. Wonder what the air quality in this vicinity is like generally for the people that work there? Presume after this latest ding the air quality was rather more blue than usual.......

hang on .... a big accident waiting to happen? What about the Buffalo that chewed the Safarilink Caravan in the Customs area? Luckily no-one was seriously hurt then. That was over 3 years ago and nothing has changed, except Bluebird getting the Dash8-400s and making an even bigger mess in the Customs area!
