Rumor has it that the CEO Badialli is in trouble with the son of the President who now wants him out.The Son of the president Karim Wade holds more than 5 ministry titles, Air Transport Minister, Cooperation Minister etc... etc... and manages more than 50% of that country budget. When politics and business are mixed, nothing good comes out of it. The other rumor I heard is Senegal Airlines has only 3 months worth of cash so unless they get a big $ infusion we are probably looking at a almost defunct airline. Senegal is also going through a major political crisis, the people are fed up with the current government so the protection that Senegal Airlines has been benefiting for so far will very soon disappear... They were talking about acquiring an additional 320 and 330 in july I just don't know how they can make it judging by the very light loads. As far as the training goes, a few pilots got hired a couple of months ago , got the 320 training and are now sitting at home with no salarieswaiting for the all elusive "New Aircraft"....

Senegal Airlines has an A320 ex-Air Jamaica that should have arrived by now, it was in Shannon the last time I looked, a fortnight ago.
However their pilots are a mix of ICAO English Language levels, apparently a few of them who retured recently from OAA after A320 ratings now have Level 6 issued by OAA ... don't quite understand why?

Thankfully no one was injured in this incident, it could have been a lot worse!

Air Senegal again

President Wade sends his servant of prime minister to Nouakchott to try to repair the errors of his cherished son
A little story before
Two weeks before the opening of Air Senegal, Senegal had by unilateral decision, in violation of Yamoussoukro agreements , prohibited the 5th freedom at the beginning of Dakar to all airline to protect the upcoming baby airline belonging by the presidential baby.
One suffered, Brussels Airlines on Dakar Conakry axis, Air Mali and others.
Conakry was world cup during these two weeks
Air Senegal operated six flights per week between Dakar and Nouakchott with continuation for the passengers embarking at Nouakchott towards to Conakry, Abidjan Bamako and elsewhere.
Air Mauritania having begun its flight. Shet wanted to benefit from these same agreements by taking passengers from Dakar towards more faraway destinations like Cotonou Libreville and Brazzaville.
Refusal of the Senegalese authorities (Decision emanating of the occult office of the civil aviation located in the office of the Minister for transport who is not other than…; Guess !!!!! )
The Mauritanians authorities by reciprocity prohibited any traffic for air Senegal towards their country.

Update on Senegal airlines, I just left GOOY, The first A320 is still in Bamako (GABS), the second (and the only one left) A320 is grounded in Dakar for air conditioning issues ?? (for more than a week now !! sounds like they do not have the cash to resolve the problems.). Big Media Offensive by the son of the President (Elections are only 6 months away and the kid is trying to become the new King) stating that they are getting 2 more planes (A320 + ATR42) , they are also going to be the only company allowed to carry passengers to Mecca (more than 8,000 passengers) eventhough they do not have a single plane capable of doing the Haj !! they are instead going to sub-contract Air Europa to do it ?? (Allegedly) ... Well you know you are in Africa When.....

No doubt African aviation has its problems (don't know how will be the maintenance when these birds get older

However, "people who live in glass houses shouldn't throw stones".
How many Airbus have Air France trashed ? 4 or so if we count the Air Inter pair, Lufhansa ? 1 fatal overrun & a nice runway vs wingtip incident in Hamburg not so long ago.

As previous posters said, long landings/ excessive speed /ineffective retardation, has the same causes ,& unfortunate effects, wherever it is practiced, Warsaw, Mangalore, Brazil. . . human pride, failure to acknowledge a screw-up and go-around, or fear of castigation, exists everywhere.
If you have access to internal safety reports of any company, you will usually find 1 or 2 instances of poor decision making resulting in unstable approaches/long landings, tis but a small step from there to an overrun. Wrong runway/ wrong day & embarassment turns to catastrophe.
" There but for the grace of God " is not far off the mark, if you acknowledge this fact with due humility, you have so much less chance to prove it correct.
