Impex Engineering

There is a company based in Nigeria with this name advertising on flight global jobs for pilots but everything appears fishy/suspect/vague. There is nothing on the website or elsewhere on the net. Can anybody throw some light on the company and whether such a flying outfit even exists or is it just a scam?

You are right. I have received a telephone call and a few emails which just about tell everything about who they are.
I have been selected as"Captain" with a monthly salary of US$ 10,000 plus a host of benefits. The offer letter even says that I'll be paid two months salary in advance before my departure for Nigeria. The only thing I am required to get it is,"just pay 25% of the visa/residence permit fees to a company in Nigeria to start the visa process" as I have to meet an arrival deadline of 1st Aug.
Sounding very happy and sincerely yearning for the job, I decided to pay them back in the same coin. Those idiots think pilots are dumb; they would find the hard way, it is otherwise.

Below is the exchange of emails between them and I. I hope you enjoy it.

Dear Ebitu Okafor,

Thank you very much once gain for your email. before I sign the contract, I would like to know the answers to the following questions;

1. How strong is your company's fleet and what are the different types?
2. Are all your aircraft glass?
3. Where do your pilots go for type rating and who bears the cost?
4. Are your operations intra Africa or long haul?
5. What is a typical roster for a jet captain?
6. Who flies the turboprops and what is the aircrew average monthly utilization?
7. Are all your aircraft RVSM equipped?
8. Do all your aircraft have EGPWS and TCAS?
9. Are there sufficent VOR ground stations available in the area to ensure accurate point to point IFR ops?
10. Are the runways ILS equipped?
11. What all do I have to go through for license conversion?
12. What is the typical reception range of VHF at medium level in the area of ops?
13. Is the airspace fully lit?

I think that's about all for the time being. If something else comes to my mind, I'll write to you again. I'll be waiting anxiously for the answers to the above questions before we proceed any further with signing the contract.

Thank you once again for the generous contract.

Best Regards,

Dear xxxx,

In regards to your mail, I want you to know that we operate on are Challenger 601, Challenger 604, Challenger 600, Boeing 737 and Boeing 767 and our pilot go to South Africa for the type rating, the company do bear the cost for this rating. The operation in intra Africa. The roster for the jet pilot will be made available at a later date and I also want you to know that the Aircraft are RVSM equipped with EGPWS and TCAS. We already pot in place VOR and ILS runways so there will not be any issue with that.
As for the conversion of the licence, we shall guide you on how to go about it, What you have to do now is to contact the Spring Travel Agency as directed so that they can start processing your permit documents.

Dear Ebitu Okafor,

Thank you very much for providing me the answers. I have a few more questions; I hope you don't mind. Those in red are the ones you forgot to answer last time.

1. What is the typical range of VHF at medium level in the area of ops?
2. Is the airspace fully lit?
3. What is the fleet strength?

4. Are all your aircraft glass?
5. What is the flight crew average monthly utilization?

6. Names of the TRTOs in South Africa.
7. Which models of 737 and 767 are you flying?
8. The cost and duration of the training bond.
9. If you have so many aircraft types, why don't you operate long haul?
10. Who is the AOC holder?
11. Who is the MRO for your aircraft?
12. What is the role of your twin aisle aircraft?
13. What are your recurrent locations?
14. What are your typical short haul destinations?
15. Are your aircraft DNMM OR DNAA based?

I know all this is delaying the process but you must appreciate that considering the appalling safety record of African Aviation in the past few decades, it is in the interest of flight safety and the safety of my passengers that I must know these answers before I make a written commitment.
Thanks you very much once again.

Best Regards,

I'll keep you updated on their response. Let's see if they can google 'lit airspace', 'glass aircraft' and 'fleet strength'.

This is a scam!

I've investigated Impex Engineering with contacts in Nigeria and can confirm this is a SCAM! I've also passed their details to Flight International.
