cessna ferry Denmark-Rwanda, europe/africa
Hi,
Looking for info to ferry a 172 fm europe to Rwanda. I was told the plane has 7 hrs endurance which should cover 600/700nm at most.
3pob, event date aug 2011
I know there are profi ferry institutes, but this would be a great opportunity for me and the ACFT owner to do some out of the ordinary GA flying.
Already got some usefull hints in different forum simillar thread. Still more info welcome.
Best route with regards to -avoidance of political/conflict zones-
-availability of AVGAS-
Sites on which to find the info for verification.

You might want to employ a flight-planning service for this, since things change very quickly along the route you will need to take. For instance, you may be told that AVGAS is available at some place, when it really is, only to find that by the time you get there it has been used up.
It is kind of boring but the usual way to get a C-172 safely to its new home in Africa is to take the wings off and put it in a shipping container. No fun, that one!

Ferry advice
I ferried a Piper Seneca from Copenhagen to South Africa a few years ago. Obviously your European route is wide open and you can make your way South to the Med based on your preference. We ended up at Malaga in Spain and from there we hopped across to Agadir in Morroco. We had 13 hours of endurance with our ferry tanks. From there you would need to head to Dakar in Senegal and then across to Accra in Ghana. This all assumes you don't have ferry tanks. Even then you may be challenged with the range of a C172. From Accra you will need to follow the coast to Libreville, although you may need to stop in Lagos for fuel (good luck). Bamako has Avgas but they are very corrupt. From Libreville you are on your own as we then flew direct to Maun on an 11 hour leg.

A friend of mine flew a C182 from Denmark to South Africe last year - and took it back this year.
Have a look at Hosbiz.com [index]
3 POB and 7 hours of fuel in a C172 however sounds quite a bit over MTOW.

Couple of Years ago we did a ferry here from Southern Portugal, FARO, to MAUN in Botswana with an old classic C172...it was a hell of a ride. Unfortunately on the very last moment i got sick, and another pilot went instead of me, (however i helped on the planning), 2 of them, all the way southwards, until near the South African Border...Route stoping after Portugal at Mauritania, Mali, Ghana, Togo, Cameroon, Gabon, Angola, Namibia and finaly Botsi...Fave places for sure Togo/Lome and Gabon...Mali/Bamako, weird as Mauri..
The AVGAS "discoveries" and Landing/Fly Permits and fees, walking side by side/hand by hand with corruption and all that stuff
Wish you all the best, and by the way, keeping a touch of french fluent language will help you a lot, my 2 cents
