S-38 Sikorsky African Tour
I have a 1928 S-38 Sikorsky painted in Zebra stripes like the one Osa and Martin Johnson toured Africa in 1934-1935. I recently flew the plane from Minneapolis Minnesota to Germany where the plane is stored today. I would like to fly from Germany to South Africa, hopefully retracing some of Osa and Martins flights.
Their routes can be seen on my web site unlimitedadventure.com
But, I need help with flight planning and routing as I am not familiar with Africa and have never flown there... Can anyone assist me

Nice,
Can those Pratts run on mogas?
You will have to decide on East or West Coast down, Avgas can be very to find in some countries, if you do, very expensive, My mate did a ferry up with a TS 60, South Africa- Kenya (Wilson)-Locichokio-Luxor-Cyprus.....then off to Tunisia-U.K......decided plane was a bastard and must go to the U.S, so off they went to Reyklavic-Goose bay-Canada somewhere-U.S.
There is a company we use on ferry flights, United Air Services, based in Dubai, they are expensive as well but the best at making sure you have overflight and landing clearances, fuel available, handling, hotel, transport,
PM me you email adress and I will forward you all the details

Egypt Help!
HI and may I convey our congratulations on your flight so far. We are a small voluntary organisation called G.A.S.E. (General Aviation Services Egypt) and use the services, knowledge and abilities of a host of aviation professionals and enthusiasts to offer a full service package to visiting/transiting General Aviation pilots and their aircraft when coming to Egypt. We have an unqualifeid success already when we were given the job of being the support team for Norman Surplus's circumnavigation by gyrocopter when he passed through Egypt earlier this year. This also led to a number of appointments to help as much as we could with other flights and also we were able to offer services to visiting pilots who were just coming to Cairo for the sights.
We can supply most of the services offered by extornionate companies for a much reduced or free ammount. This includes fuel etc and flight planning services and permissions. We also offer were appropriate, free accomodation and a full sight seeing package with transport...for free.
We do this voluntarily as we are all devoted to bringing more general aviation to Egypt.
If you think we can be of help please contact me on
[email protected]

Tom. You might like to try and contact Puma-Energy. They have just taken over or bought shares in most of BP's east and southern African aviation fuel concessions.
They are a Swiss-based company and few folk know much about them. I am sure helping out with Osa's Ark's fuel requirements would be right up their street. I have no contacts as they don't respond to emails sent using the address on their website (great start to taking on new business). Will probably need a phone call.

We are currentyl trying to get permits, arrange fuel and get visas for the countries we will need to go thru.
Initially we thought that we would go down the east coast of Africa, but
with the difficulties in Southern Sudan we haven't been able to arrange for
fuel and permits.
Now we are working on the logistics of going down the west coast of Africa. We are hopeful we will be underway in February or March... still lots of loose ends.
