Refueling in Africa
Hello.
When flying from South Africa to Europe and vice versa, where is the ideal place to refuel considering 1 fuel stop enroute? Addis, Brazzaville?
Thanks.

Addis (HAAB) or Khartoum (HSSS) are fine. I'd avoid any of the central African banana republics. If you can make it to North Africa, Algieria (Tamranasset or Algiers) or Cairo. If you get stuck due to maintenance, they have decent hotels.

I'd avoid Brazzaville and Kinshasa due to corruption(worse in Kinshasa), cost and fuel contamination issues. Libreville okay but I second the other posters with Khartoum or Addis. Entebbe okay as well and relatively cheap fuel. Just check HUEN Notams about the availability of jet fuel.

I can recommend (aircraft: CJ2+, MTOW: 5.6 tons)
FLLS (Lusaka)-low landing fee, BP fuelling
FCBB (Brazzaville) is o.k
DKNK (Kano), landing fee 1200 USD, AIR TOTAL fueller refused fuel release; endless dicusssions=not recommended!
DRZR (Zinder, Niger), landing fee=35 Euro, fuel had to be paid cash. Small airport; depending on the size of your aircraft, not suitable.
DAAT, DABB and DABC in Algeria are all perfect for tech stops: small airports, low landing fees, quick turnaround is easily feasible.
HUEN and HSSS are o.k for tech ldg
HAAB: too slow even for African standards! Takes you at least two hours for sure!
HEAX (Alexandria): good airport! Avoid HEBA, the other airport of Alexandria!
EUROS are accepted in Algeria, Niger and Congo. Otherwise, USD is a must (small denominations!)!!!
Cheers
