SAX Dash-8 Blocks 03L JHB
So as many of us are aware, a SAX Dash-8 blocked the runway at JNB the other day. Rumour has it that the flying pilot tried to be a hero by landing 03L and planned vacating on L intersection. Reality is, they could not vacate as they had blown tires on landing. This resulting in a blocked runway for quite sometime.
Can anybody confirm or dispell this rumour.

The Dash had in fact landed on 03R and was taxiing across on Lima - both tyres blew simultaneously (not fusible plugs) just after crossing 03L - tail was encroaching onto the runway. According to a friend at SAX, the brakes were ice cold - quite possible since the ground-fine range of the props works well in controlling taxi speed.

I've vacated on Lima quite a few times in days past when still driving a Dash - I'ts no big deal (Less then 17 tons and you hardly need to touch the brakes).
Are you a newspaper journalist looking for tomorrows headline?

Glorified bus driver is showing its supreme ignorance of a/c and a/c operating facts!
Clearly a bored newspaper reporter looking for sensationalism.
Go and get the correct facts and print them, not the usual SA journalism associated with aviation!
