See thread on 'Rumours&News'. The following from the Avient website:
28 November 2009

An Avient Aviation operated aircraft was involved in an accident at approximate 00:16 GMT today while the aircraft, a McDonnell Douglas MD11 Freighter , was operating a charter freight flight from Pudong International Airport in China.

Preliminary information indicates that the accident occurred on takeoff from Pudong International Airport. The aircraft was carrying a crew of 7.

At this time, the full resources of Avient's accident response team have been mobilised and will be devoted to cooperating with all authorities responding to the accident.

At this time no further information is available. Avient will continue to release additional information as it is confirmed.

What would be interesting to know is what cargo the aircraft was carrying. The MD-11 is not a small aircraft and given the relationship between the two countries, China is known to be happy to supply Zimbabwe with anything it can't get elswhere.

Centre of Gravity problems

Heard that the aircraft had a tail strike on take off.
Was there a c of g problem
Perhaps unsecured cargo shifted on take off.
With a Zimbabwean aircraft in China - any of the above scenarios is possible

The ONLY thing related to Zimbabwe concerning Aviant is the tail number!
The profit from so called "grandfather rights" in the same way MK does and many others too.
They are based in France, maintained in France and use international crews for their operations.
The only thing that comes to mind immediately is they have only had this plane for a WEEK - ie maybe crew were still doing transition training - if someone has flown both DC-10/MD-11 could post their view on this.....

tail strike..does it hint toward trim or?

is it a confirmed tail strike? if so, can it be an out of trim (out of balance) on take off issue? sorry about the loss.
