Q400 in Africa

Hello all,

I have a question because I saw several threads regarding Q400's in Africa.
I did some research via several sites to gain more information about operators using the Q400 in Africa.

I gained experience as a FO on the Q400 in Europe and I would like to work in Africa. Since I am current and experienced flying the Q400 I fancy a job flying this machine in Africa.
Can you maybe help me by giving information about operators using the Q400 in Africa and my chances with these companies (looking for rated Q400 FO's)?!

Thanks for your help!!
Polly

Arik Air in Lagos, Nigeria, is scheduled to get five Q-400's.

Main office for hiring is in London.

Anyone

So the only Q400 Operator in Africa is Arik Air?! Has anybody more information, I heard Bluebird and CMC aviation do have or have orders for the Q400 is this correct?
Any other information is highly appreciated!

Kind Regards!

You want to leave comfortable Europe and shiny Q400 for dusty, smelly Afrika and not so shiny Crash-8s ????
Are you sure you took your pills this morning?

CMC already operates a bunch of Dash 8 and Bluebird (the one in Sudan you mean?) operates one small Dash...
Not heard any rumours about Q400 though...

Do you REALLY want to come here?
Why?

Sax has 2 Q-400's and more on the way but will only hire someone with the right to live and work in SA. They would not assist in that process.
Sounds like a few Q-400's on their way to Kenya soon with DAC aviation as the contractor and then LAM in Mozambique now also has 2 400's

It's just a mystery when these are really on their way, no proof of confirmed order for more...

PC-6, you are obviously a very negative person and not too informed either.., Africa is not smelly, just maybe the place you are in...CMC are getting Dash 8s Q-400 and are currently the largest operator in Kenya and Eastern Africa, Blue Bird is not in Sudan, operates out of wilson and they have already 5 dash 8s, their Q-400s are landing tomorrow as we speak...!!.

Oh Jetpet, that's not very nice...

Indeed, I might be running out of optimism this rotation (and patience for that matter)...
But it's OK... another few days and I shall be on that big beautiful butterfly going home for a while. I promise when I come back I ll be a happy cheerful little guy

However, what I can tell you is that the place I am currently in IS smelly, full of mosquitoes and some dangerous people too.
There are also very nice and interesting people, beautiful scenery and great experiences to be found.

For your info, there is also a Bluebird in Sudan flying Dash8.

So please can you retract your claws now?

And regarding Dash 8's, I see them fly out of unpaved runways around here and I admit it looks like a lot of fun for these guys (and girls)
Not Q400 though

C registration doesn't mean the aircraft will stay C registered. This was a ferry for re-registration in Nigeria. This same aircraft is now 5N-BKV.

Hi there,

First of all I would like to thank you all for your replies, it has been very helpful in completing my 'operator picture'!

For those who are interested YES I would like to work in Africa, since I am young and ambitious I would love to work and experience this continent and in my opinion it has a lot to offer, shortly said; It would love to gain experience flying and living in Africa, it will be be a very big adventure and I am very motivated live this adventure!

Can someone provide me the details from a HR or Flight Operations Department contact from Arik, CMC, Tassili and LAM?! So I can sent my papers to them?!
Please post it or PM in order not to harm any privacy regulations regarding these persons.
Thank you all for your help, It's highly appreciated!!

Kind Regards,

Polly

Angel Big Adventure.....Africa....HA !!!!

HAHAHA....LMAO...."Big Adventure"...you must really be watching too many movies based in Africa. I would love to see how much time you will have on your hands for "adventure" because the one day you get off per week will be mostly spent in bed recovering from fatigue after doing maybe 30 sectors in the last six days. Then one day rest before you have to throw on the monkey suit again for another six days.

D. Req.

You'd think SAX would hurry up the delivery of these machines, or at least clarify things. The Q400 is a flexible aircraft that is well-suited to a variety of missions for them. It can do the short hops like Botswana but its also done longer stage-lengths like Lubumbashi, Congo, which is 2.5hrs plus. With its much better CASM vs the CR2 or CR7, plus the commonality and knowledge base they have from operating smaller Dash 8 series aircraft, you'd have thought they'd have brought in more Q400s a couple years ago. Then again, that actually makes sense.....

Obviously not ambitious enough. You have been given alot of info from people who have taken time out to reply to you. Use your 'young and ambitious' spirit to search for the contacts on your own through good old fashion research. alternatively you be really adventurous, take a leap of faith and get your ass over to these places, show your face at the chief pilots office showing them how ambitious you really are.

Common bloody sense will keep you alive unless you want to stay young forever.
