Embraers for Air Nam???
Good morning guys,
I heard a GOSSIP concerning "some Embraers" flying soon for Air Namibia.
Does anybody knows a bikkie more about this, and if yes, of what Embraer do "they" actually talk about? is it a lease, a sub-contracting story or so?
I tried to get infos at the Air Nam Ops, by phone, but none of the persons I talked too seems to have an clue about that.
Thanks,
TRFN

I herd a similar rumor. Apparently they're looking for machines to replace their B1900s because of increased pax loads on some of their routes. Eros is however a very challenging airfield. Most medium turbospops cannot performance comply, especially in the 2nd and 3rd segments. It'll be interesting to find out which a/c they'll choose.

Embraer 110? 120? 145?
Wokay, thanks guys...any idea of whcih specific model of embraer would it be?
About Eros, well, if the Goooood old' DC6 can manage a take off out of there on a 35 degree day-lekker-for-a-braai-by-the-pool-but-not-for-a-runway-09-take-off, I'm not worried about a Brasilia or Banderante...
Anyway, thats another topic, for another day...

Seem to remember the Airlink aircraft often having to taxi from one holding point to the other because of 2 or 3 kts of wind change, think they had a few perf issues on RWY19 too - Eros at 5500ft and summer temps around 30deg plus, mmm

FYI: Eros is open to international traffic since mid September this year. Thats as far as I know and I'm speaking under correction. The Bay Air story sounds good although no info on routes is available yet. However Eros is still a huge challenge, even to most jets available to date.

They gave Air Nam a hard time flying out of the city centre, instead of a 40km drive out of town.
Heard Eros will be open early 2010 (soccer world cup)for Int.flights again......

eros - link?
Are you guys sure Link went into Eros? I know SAX did with the CRJ, but got booted as it took away Air Nam pax on the cone-head King-airs out of there. They made it all about noise, but thats is all BS as an RJ is pretty damn quiet.

Well, seems official now: Air Namibia will operate EMB135 out of Eros, starting early(ish) 2011.
Lots of internal restructuring with regards to career path.
They already closed the 1900 Cape Town (coastal) route. Bay Air will connect Oranjemund & Luedritz with Walvis Bay, new Air Nam 1900 route between ERS & WVB.

Don't do it , unless you are flying suits with briefcases only . Certain airlines in the ME are now regretting them baggage and cargo-wise that is. Anyway , as long as some wallah has trousered a large wad , then the pilots will just have to get on with it !
