SafariLink Masai Mara Incident

Anyone know when we can expect investigation report into aborted take off/crash/aircraft writeoff (without serious injuries to crew or PAX) of SafariLink LET 5Y VVB on 10 July 2008

It's not always easy getting an accident report out of local authorities. Especially if it's being requested by email.

To let or not to let

The aircraft in question has definitely been abandoned - and a few weeks ago was pulled to the side of the airstrip into the grass and left. All salvageable parts seem to be slowly stripped off and the vibe is that this particular aircraft will not fly again.

The operator has done a 'stunning' job of blanking off the company name from the fuselage?! And the inspectors who attended the incident the next day spent most of their time measuring how far off the runway the aircraft went and never initially even looked at the engines, nor started either engine, or even - according to rumors/reports - went on board the aircraft to see where levers were or what indications were.

Sadly Kenya doesn't have any history of issuing useful crash/incident reports. Investigations are held with no feedback to the general aviation community so mistakes are never learnt from...

This week, they are holding a massive conference in South Africa with all of the African Civil Aviation Authorities, ICAO , ASECNA etc (all role players) to try and sort things out.

Caught a bit on the news the other night, and what they showed was Zulu dancers and a multi-coloured choir singing gospel songs.

Hopefully that solves the problem.

Maybe they'll dance their way out of this one and every other report that's been left hanging over the past....
