chopper down

Anyone have info on a chopper that has crashed in a gorge near
Lydenburg. Sadly fatalities involved. Apparently it power lines.

I confirm having heard the same sad story from people here. Nothing further at this stage. Probably happened around mid day as there were ambulances and medivac vehicles coming thru our town at speed.

dud, my info now is that 3 and possibly 4 fatalities involved. RIP

Three die in helicopter crash

Johannesburg - Three people died in a helicopter crash on Saturday near Lydenberg in Mpumulanga, said police.

Captain Elizabeth Rambuwani said the victims had not been identified yet.

She said the accident happened some time after 13:00 on Saturday when the helicopter became entangled in electric wires.

Captain Klaas Maloka said the private helicopter had spun out of control and hit rocks before catching fire.

Pilot and passenger

Pilot (Instructor) was Leon Degenaar from Henley Air and student pilot, Barnie van der Vyfer. Both killed. Not sure about other pax.
