Flying in Uganda

I applied to a position on climb to 350.com taking 737 FOs and Captains for a brand new start up company. I surprisingly got a response from their chief pilot who basically said get 1500 and a type rating and they'd be intrested. I'm currently at 1235 hours TT which means I'm about 3 months away from the 1500 so of course the epic question... is it worth it?

Assuming the job is still there when I'm at 1500, how is Uganda? I'm generally aware of the issues with Africa but curious about Uganda itself? What is the normal pay for a starting FO in this part of the world?

Well, where do I start.
Uganda has had its fair share of airlines start up and fold within six months to a year. AfricaOne, East African Airlines, Victoria International....and the list goes on. I sure hope that whoever is masterminding this operation has done their homework and is serious about it.
Other than that, Uganda is your typical African country...poverty, bad infrastructure and the like. But on the flipside, you will never find friendlier people than Ugandans.
I say go for it, but then again how sure are you the job will still be available once you have 1500TT. As a pilot, you will get the utmost respect and the cost of living is really low which translates into huge savings if you are serious about it all. Of course the above is dependant upon how much you will make. Oh by the way, Uganda is known to have the most beautiful women in Africa. Good luck!

the company is called skyjet. 3500 a month for Fo for 70 hrs a month, and 10 dollars a flight hr over that. if that is not a mistake. apply and you will hear back in a couple of days. fill out the app and you will get the job. don;t know much other than that though.

They said minimum time but a friend showed me his email correspondance with them and it basically said only the lucky few were getting in with just the 737 type... most have previous time, a result of all the furloughs in the West...

Entebbe nicest place on the planet

I have no idea about this startup. But as far as a place to live, Entebbe is one of the nicest on the planet. There is no place I have ever seen in all my travels where the weather is as perfect. No need for either air conditioning or heating - it never gets hot or cold enough. Luganda music is a delight. The people are pleasant. Relatively low crime rate. Nice places to go to in the rest of the country. I will go back when possible.
