Nonsense, mate of mine was called last week with a start date in July as a S/O on the long haul, and his package is R 541 000 pa of which R 54 000 pa is paid into a pension, provident and medical aid fund, so he will earn about R 460 000 pa before tax. This includes the 13th cheque, but does not include the daily allowance which is paid out at the destinations and is over US$ 100 per day !!!! Not a bad salary for some one starting at the bottom.

TT

Its a pitty your mate wont be getting danger pay TT.

A whole bunch of contractors (mechanical and avionics) started there today. Thirty of these are Zimbabweans. I already have to do all the work for one of the contractors in our crew and he's from SA, howmany more incapable people must we carry?

Add to this the fact that the pay for SAA tech's are of the worst in the country and you get a verry negative workforce. They are filling the empty spots (and BEE quota's) with faces, just a pitty they couldn't get able hands to do the job.

Next time you get into a SAA aircraft, stop and think for a moment who 'fixed' the engines and, IF he was a capable person, how overworked he was by the time he got to the aircraft you are sitting in. At the rate its going I wonder how safe our simulator's are...

Good luck to your buddy!

shame on you

Plore, dude, why are still hanging around SAA Tech if you have such attitude towards you bread and butter? Could it be because it's all you've done for the past 15 years of your life? Maybe you should focus your energy and experience by empowering those you claim lack the expertise.

SAA pilot recruitment

Is there a website that has more on SAA's terms of employment for pilots. Do all newhires start as S/O? What is the application process etc?

Thanks.

HMD,

Unless you are a SA citizen, don't bother. It does not matter whether you start as SO international or FO domestic, the pay is the same. There are slight differences in long range and short range allowances plus obviously differences in S&T.

Your age might also be a wee problem.

I don't think there is an official age limit. I just don't know of any 50 year old pilots ever appointed at SAA.
