Situation Mombassa

Hi,

Can anyone give me the current security information of mombassa? Took my wife with me on a id-ticket, i was on duty, but had to leave here behind because the plane was full. The situation seemed allright but would like to have some insight info.

Thanx

Paul

Seems ok according to family:

Well - my family is in Mombasa on holiday now and have said everything was fine - most of the chaos contained to the 'upcountry' and densely populated slum areas.

Anyone else got anymore info?

Friends in NBO and MBA say violence is centred in slum area's not approaching tourist hotels, airports etc, at least not yet.

Would appreciate indication availability Jet A1 NBO and MBA as I know the guy's in Uganda are very concerned about Ugandan supplies that come by road from Eldorette.

Already a petrol shortage in Uganda with fuel selling up to US$10 per liter.

FWIW I was in and out of Mombasa on Sunday night , landed about 10pm Kenya time departed an hour later ( for Sharm ) . Our whole handling was normal , bit I rang a friend in Malindi to pass greetings and she told me Kibaki had been sworn in that afternoon . The coast do not support the Kibaki / Kikuyu set and we expected some trouble at the coast .
Sure enough , found out that 2 of our pax for MBA-SSH could not get to airport to check in due roadblocks etc. The next day , heard that our inbound pax were kept at the airport until dawn and escort organised to their hotel. Now expecting a call to evacuate them unless things calm down rapidly .
The BBC website is reporting that many UK charter companies are suspending flights for a couple of days.
