Community Airlines in Tanzania.

I heard some rumours that this new airline is about to start operating from Dar-es-salaam on Monday the 10th with a B738 which is already in Dar. More aircrafts to come soon. Any more info on this?

Thought it was a 500, any news on where the are getting the crew from? Heard they will start flying to Kili and Mwanza. Nice looking colours though, heard a minister is chairman.

yes heard Community Airlines starting tommorow DAR-MWZ with a B738.
Their offices are opposite Tazara on the way on the Airport at Safasha Plaza.

Its a low cost airline something like Fly540 of Kenya...

Their fare DAR-Mwanza return is Tshs 268,000 according to their website

In my opinion they should have started with a smaller Plane (may be Dash 8, ATR 42) just like Fly 540 operating to MWZ, JRO, ZNZ. It is easy to fill up the smaller plane then those bigger jets. Plus the bigger jets have high costs of operations (ground handling, fuel e.t.c)

Since it is a low cost Airline, travel agents cant access them on the CRS/GDS booking systems. They have to do it online.
Which will be a set back for them.

Anyhow i wish them good luck... But it will be a tough game between Community PW & TC and air charters such as coastal on DAR-ZNZ/ARU routes.

I heard it is a 300...
Anybody seen its reg? 5H?
I share the same pessimism, should have started with a Turbo prop.
Optimism is the tune, let us mutiya the airline breaks even.

Is this the same "Community Airlines" that has a 737-200 aircraft flying around in South Africa...currently for SAX, while the Q400 is damaged after the incident at GRJ.

Saw the a/c yesterday at DAR. It's a B737-400. The B737-200 in SA painted in the same colours belongs to Avstar and is leased on ACMI basis to Community as well as others thats why it's doing the SAX run to GRJ.

Heard they want to eventually fly to Johburg, maybe that's why they got the plane, could do good buisness on a Mwanza-Dar-Johburg route.

But why get a 732 sure they are cheaper but got a 30% higer fuel burn than a 300.

I still believe that it is a B737-800 without winglets, guys try to confirm this once for all, and its not 5H REG, what i heard is its from somewhere in Asia with its own crew.
It took off today to Mwanza as a first flight almost 2 hours late, what a way to start!
I totally agree with some of you guys that why didn't they start with turbo props? This is not an easy business unless they have proper strategies!
Lets hope that it won't be like another Eagle air!!

Jamil, wouldn't surprise me - Pegasus wet-lease their -NGs over the winter to earn some cash, they end up in many places. If it is Pegasus, the odds are that it will go back to Turkey for the new tourist season there in April/May.

Thanks Jamil for proving that it is indeed a B738.
Its sad to see a nice machine like this on ground Dar-es-salaam most of the time. And so far i have seen it flying to Mwanza and back and maybe to Kilimanjaro in the morning and thats it for a day!
I wish that they could offer it to the National flag career to utilize it the way it deserves!

Wonder why they didn't charter it for the Haji's that got stuck in Dar, and that DC-10 is still sitting there.
