well done SA

Well Done Sa, For winning the 2007 RWC , from what i have read so far it is an interesting and amusing debate .
I just hope we can all be around for another load of banter in 2011 , one small question though will you big brave lads and lasses from SA ,be quoting posts on the African web site if and i say if you don't win again ,

NO you will be hiding away with not a slight murmer or hint of anything to say !!!!!!!

by the way keep flying BA ,your national pride is serving your national airline well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

One word, discipline.

This is what Jake White harnessed, sharpened and wielded through impeccable captaining by John Smit. The Boks fully deserve the cup.

Ask any coach from school level up to international level, what is of greater concern to him, a team that is not playing ‘inventive, intuitive’ rugby, or a team that’s discipline negatively befalls it, constantly conceding penalties? The answer will without hesitation be that of conceding penalties.

South Africa conceded two penalties, while playing fifteen men almost the entire eighty minutes with one replacement and one blood let. That is discipline any way you view it. England fielded its entire bench and conceded five penalties.

On every game day that SA played it was immediately evident that SA displayed the greatest level of focus and discipline, very often in the face of some rather wayward booing from the crowd.

I am certain that all South Africans would much prefer that SAA be the teams’ official carrier, but they aren’t, BA are, so what, it is not the teams official carrier that manifests its abilities on the field in score-board tallies.

I have yet to encounter any prolific SA sportsmen/women/team that is prone to blame projection. South Africans have a distinctive trait of preferably looking inward at what we did wrong or could have done better, exactly as was the case in ’99 and ’03.

Had SA lost I can assure you that gracious losers they would have been, conveying any and all well deserved accolades, just as was the case in ‘99 and ’03. South Africans do not ‘hide or cower’ when critique is handed down, it is simply not in our nature.

The world Cup did however produce some amazing performances, not least of all that of three teams in particular, that being England, France and Argentina. England for their incredible resurgence after their SA defeat shows immense character, worthy of world champions. France for their tenacity after being defeated not only in front of their home crowd, but on opening day of the match,……they will prove to be an extremely formidable team in the future. Argentina, quite simply because I have always believed that if the likes of Hugo Porta could be recognized on the world stage, it would not be too long before the team as a unit would soon follow suit.

Well done Boks, you make us proud!!

Ex Dog, Clearly you dont read much about sport in SA. With the introduction of quotas in sport, it is unlikely that SA rugby will, after 31st December 2007 ever field a team picked entirely on merit again. This been said, I will continue to support them, but do not expect them to be as strong and competitive in competitions such as the Tri Nations and World cup for some time. In 4 years I might be congratulating another country on their victory, or I might just be gloating again, but for now and the next 4 years, WE ARE THE WORLD CHAMPS!!! Well done to all at SA Rugby that had a part in putting our name on the WE Cup.

Ah the All Blacks and their supporters you got to love them full of sh1t in victory but never gracious in defeat! I do see that perhaps the final was not the most open game but I think Will Greenwood has summed it up extremely well, and he is an Englishmen through, perhaps the Kiwi's and Aussie's could learn a thing or two about how to loose a major final but walk out with your head held high and your dignity in tact, which it has to be said the England team and their supporters ( I know as I'm based in the UK these days) have done. For that reason I have also chosen not to gloat in their faces but engage in mutual respect for each nations achievmnets and enjoyment of the game of rugby union.

Well said, could'nt agree more! I too take my hat off to Will Greenwood and wish ALL supporters from all sides could be this generous in defeat. The man has grown tremendously in stature and is way above the name calling, jeering masses! Before you say it Southcoast, I admit I am not on Will Greenwoods level and yes I know he is a bloody pom but, never mind that, he is a SPORTING LEGEND now!

SI article mentioned NZ coach as having said (pre-tournament): the All Blacks have such great depth they could have sent any 1 of 3 teams to win THE Cup.
They should maybe not have sent the 4th team then?
