Post Aircraft Crash at Klerksdorp

Three people died instantly when their light aircraft crashed east of Klerksdorp in the North West province on Thursday night, the Civil Aviation Authority said on Friday.

The victims were John Botha, 45, his son Justin, 20, and Justin's girlfriend, Marinda Hood, 20. All three were from Klerksdorp.

A spokesperson for the CAA, Laurette Kluever, said the accident happened between 8pm and 10pm on Thursday night and the wreck was discovered around 5am on Friday.

She said it was a Mooney M20 with registration number 25-KEM.

The cause of the crash was not known yet and it was thought they were either having a fun ride or a practice session as they did not have a specific destination.
