Question 126.9

I am a staunch advocate of the use of 126.9 whilst flying anywhere in Africa.. .I am dismayed that some people, often flying quite heavy metal, show complacency about this procedure!. .What is the general consensus on this?. .V1 Rotate

I say; ignore it at your peril! And there are those that do, believe it or not.

Wink

The General Consensus has nothing to do with this. The Jepp Chart clearly states what is required when operating in the Africa 126.9 area and this MUST be adhered to.

Those not making the calls are simply either not very professional, or simply avoiding the overflight charges at the possible expense of others.

Although some of the more dodgy gunrunners dont broadcast on it they listen in on it too, and I agree if you want to die, dont monitor it. As 126.9 said Jepp Chart states that you are supposed to use it.

126.9 - Proffessionalism counts for added safety & it's a pleasure to listen to those that broadcast concisely & accurately !. .How many are there out there that don't bother ?

I use it all the time, every time.

As someone else said, the main culprits - not using it - seem to be certain Continental European heavy metal operators. Idiots!
