I hear from a contact in Comair a possible 23 retrenchments for 2002. Some B727 crew possibly to go. Some B737 crew may be taken on contract by SAA in place of the South Americans presently flying contract there.

Sad news indeed, heard 2nd hand that the guys on last B737 course have been told that 'if they can find other jobs, they should take them.' Would have thought that CPA was quite strong and could have worked out a wage split deal with management.

The CPA is actually doing a lot of good work. As far as I know no one has been actually been told to find himself another job. The CPA are working very hard to find jobs for the guys before any actual retrenchments happen.Rumour has it deals with Safair and SAA have been made for short/medium term contracts so that no one is left without a job. Also following other options to save jobs in terms of salaries etc.
