The sad part of this state of affairs is that
SAA will try to undercut any other airlines
prices (local airlines) using tax payer's money! When will it stop.

That's just it mate: it won't!

Being of an SAA background myself, I have complete and utter faith in the system. It's not designed to be free, fair or competitive. Not completely unlike the ANC government mind you.

As a relatively new member to SAA I am looking for a few positive things on this forum. Who can help? The doom and gloom that is portrayed by the majority of drivers on this sight wrt to SAA is disappointing. I am not saying that this country or airline are free of problems, but hopefully we are big enough(in character)tp meet the challenges!!
I have had one airline close around me and its not a joke. Lots of families are affected. C'mon ,anyone want to be positive?

Well No actually! Not really. I left SAA and South Africa 3 years ago. I read the South African papers regularly, I listen to South African Internet Radio regularly, and I'm in constant contact with my family down there. The most positive thought I can offer you with regards to The New South Africa: the flight out of there was FANTASTIC!

Must have been a helluva delay; I see you're still in Groblersdal!

What type is MGC anyway? It sounds like quite a familiar registration.

126.9, I am not going to get personal on this site ( we are all grown ups and entitled to our own opinion hey?) but why dont I tell you some of the positive reasons why we are still here!!!
We love the fact the sun shines all the time, the girls all wear bikini's and are in shape. The beer is never warm and the rugby is a religion. I support my side from the stands.....I support them from home.
SAA gives us enough money to send our kids to private schools. Our wives have private medical aids. Security is a problem and costs money but rather that than living in a sand pit. My remuneration is such that our property is big enough to have one or two small cottages where our families live close to us. That means that the things that mean something in life, are celebrated together with our loved ones and not over the internet or a phone. We look after each other!!
That is the kind of positivity that us at home need. Not the constant drone that we hear from people who have left for "greener pastures". You have gone, I'm sure your reasons are solid for you, but we are happy. Keep your negativity for whatever country youre in now. Unless you have something positive to say ,why write in this column? You are not here, your opinion does not count!
I am not naive enough to think that this is a bed of roses, but it is OUR bed. Each airline has its own problems, that is why this site was started, but I bet you will find that the ones that make it are the positive ones.
I am new at SAA,but have been in the left hand seat on Fluffies before, there are plenty of jobs at the moment that could be looked at in Europe\N. Africa etc etc and I hope to hell that I NEVER have to apply to them.

Now for my 5 cents.
What bothers me about your patriotism is the fact that you seem to close yourself up to that beutiful country and all its beutiful people by living on your property with your family and, well seems a bit like the ox-wagon lager style of protecting yourself from the Zulus..That makes me sad. You love your country, you're a civil servant, you're patriotic as hell etc etc..Its great to see and most of us feel the same way I suppose, but I dont want to live in a cacoon surounded by all the things that are dear to me , waiting for the walls to come caving in.In ten years time it might just be a bit too late.
Anyway I think that a lot of the guys out here EU side and Sandpit side are doing it for the Commands and for the pensions in a currency that at least will be worth somthing by the time they retire..
as I said it realy is only five cents worth.
cheers and goodluck

I don't really care which seat you sat in for which airline. If it's positivity about South Africa you want, then you'll have to make it up for yourself! The statistics speak for themselves. And if they haven't affected you yet; (yes, I said YET) don't go stuffing your positivity down my throat. When you and your family have had to stare down the barrells of AK47's in your fancy home with 2 cottages at the bottom of the garden, (I have had to, heaven forbid you should) when your Uncle and Aunt have been pointlessly murdered in their home, when your mother-in-law has been rifle whipped to within inches of her life; talk to me again! And please stop giving me that self righteous South African bullsh!t that assumes ex-South Africans and other foreigners have no opinion. That's what got us all into sh!t in the first place. Also, this site was NOT designed for anything South African. This is a privately owned, British site for pilots and other aviators worldwide. You might notice that here, unlike in South Africa, EVERYONE has a voice!

I'm glad to hear you're happy with your new SAA salary. I wouldn't be; but then again, I have a choice now! It's GREAT that you want to stay in South Africa; we wanted to as well! I sincerely hope that you're never accosted by those that convinced me to leave, or those that shot Andre Viljoen in the face!

Have a Nice Life!!

Hi there guys. Ok we have all had a few days to cool off so lets try this again. I would like to stress that none of this was supposed to get personal and I apologise if it came across like that. It was not the intention.
4g: I think you made some good points specifically wrt Captaincy and foreign currency. I think that is why you will find 90% of the boys are banking overseas. Saying that I would like to clear up something. I am English speaking and hold an EU passport. I did not go to Spanner High School in Vanderbijl. Your ref to an ox wagon laager is both insulting and inaccurate. This is not for Volk and Vaderland but for my family and our lifestyle ,that is all I was trying to say.
126.9: I have deep sympathy for you and your family wrt the tragedies you have had to go through. It is inexcusable, and gives more insight into your reasons for leaving.
Back to your mail, I dont want you to think for one second that I was trying to impress YOU with the left hand seat experience. I was just illustrating that along with an EU passport and the P1 there are a lot of oppurtunities out there. My choice is not to take them at this stage. That was my point. Also this IS the place for African\RSA comments and discussion, no matter who owns the site.
We all have the right to choose, I will never try and convince you that you have made the wrong choice. We are all different with diff needs, and what best suits you should be your choice!!
Lets call a truce and concentrate on the one thing that we all love and that is flying....
