Post how do i.....

How do i go about converting aussie licenses and ratings to the African equivalent, and which license is most widely used? Do i have to do check rides, or just the theory exams? (cpl/ir)

Cheers all

In botswana, you'l need to do a law exam, 50 or 30 questions multi choice...takes about 10 minutes (maybe 30..you are an aussie) then just a check ride, 1 hour at the most of stalls and circuits etc.

then send your license etc of to the DCA ( CAA equivalent) and they give you a botswana CPL..oh and youve got to do a medical.

As for up north i have heard a FAA atpl is a good help in kenya but really i know buggar all about that part of the world...

cheers muna

Gravox, The situation for gaining the kenyan commercial licence is this:
If you only have a comm licence now, then you will have to sit ALL the comm ground school again once you get to Kenya. I think this takes about 3-4 months. (2) You will also have to do an IFR flight test. (3) Once you have the Kenyan Comm and the IFR then and only then will the companies around Wilson airport start looking at you. If they hire you, most of them will sort out the work visa for you; however, they will probably bond you to the company for a few years. You will get a job there. Persistence and Patience are the two key words, but you will be sitting around for awhile before the opportunities come along, so make sure you have enough money to keep yourself going while you're there. If you already have an ATPL, then you only need to sit the airlaw exam and the IFR test. I have generalised alot here, so email me if you want some more info about this, as I've just been through it all myself!!!
