Post Two Russian pilots died in Congo

LUANDA, 25 August, 2001.Two Russian pilots died in an air crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Their An-28 aircraft crashed late Friday night in the country's eastern area controlled by anti-Government rebels. Two of the plane's passengers were also killed in the crash, with seven others badly injured.

The plane fell down eight minutes after the take-off due to an engine failure.

Any details of the crash?

Unhappy

I Spoke to some Russian pilots at Bukavu who had the bodies on board ready for transportation to Kigali. Details are sketchy but what is known is that they crashed about 45km from Bukavu after an engine failed. A turbine DC3 in the same area nosed over after the main gear hit a hole on a dirt strip.Thankfully, the crew were not hurt Also no other details. A sad weekend for aviation in the DRC.

AN 28 returning to Bukavu.
30 Kms out, pilot reported one engine failure. Soon after they reported number two engine failure. Aircraft went down in the mountains West of Bukavu.

Another AN 28 went on a rescue mission from Bukavu and managed to land nearby.

2 pilots and three passengers died in the incedent.
